Will the red star shine particularly brightly in Poznan?
It has been over five years since a Polish team qualified for the UEFA Champions League group stage. Lech Poznan would very much like to follow in the footsteps of Legia Warsaw, who were represented in the group stage of Europe’s premier club competition in 2019/20. However, the road there is rocky, as Red Star Belgrade, an opponent that looks stronger on paper and, according to the most popular bookmakers, should have the better chances of advancing to the playoffs, awaits in the third qualifying round.
I fully agree with this assessment, especially as the visitors from Serbia have gained a lot of experience on the international stage in recent years and also have better individual players. My Lech Poznan vs. Red Star Belgrade tip is therefore for a good result for the “Crveno-Beli.”
This is not least due to the fact that coach Vladan Milojevic’s team has made a very promising start to the new season. Before the upcoming third-round first leg between Lech Poznan and Red Star Belgrade, predictions of victories for the Serbian champions would have been the norm. They won all four matches in the league and in the previous Champions League qualifying round, scoring an incredible 17 goals!
Lech Poznan has also already proven its scoring prowess. In the home and away matches against Icelandic representatives Breidablik, the Poles scored eight goals, and in the league they also scored seven in the first three matchdays (two wins, one defeat). Against this backdrop, the odds on over goals are also attractive ahead of the kick-off between Lech Poznan and Red Star Belgrade.
Lech Poznan – Red Star Belgrade Head-to-head record
The head-to-head record is completely irrelevant for the prediction of this match. This is the first time that Lech Poznan and Red Star Belgrade have met in a competitive match.
It is therefore more interesting to note that the Poles have conceded eleven goals in their six matches so far, while Crvena zvezda have conceded two goals in four matches across all competitions. In my opinion, this suggests that the Serbs are more likely to win away from home!
Lech Poznan – Red Star Belgrade Tip
Lech Poznan secured the Polish championship title last season with a comfortable points advantage. The foundation for this great success was laid by their impressive home record. They won 15 of their 17 games in front of their own fans. Nevertheless, I don’t believe that Danish coach Nils Frederiksen’s team will be able to prove their home strength against a better-equipped opponent in the UEFA Champions League.
In my opinion, Red Star has higher individual quality and more experience on the international stage. In addition, Milojevic’s team’s performances so far have caught the attention. 16 goals in four competitive games are a real statement! Against the vulnerable defense from Poznan, which has conceded almost two goals per game on average in its first six matches of the season, Duarte, Arnautovic, and Co. will probably create many good scoring opportunities again.
Combining these factors, I’ve come up with some attractive betting odds for the match between Lech Poznan and Red Star Belgrade: X2 & Over 1.5, which covers at least two goals in the game and at least a draw for the Serbs. The top odds are 1.91, and I’m betting five out of a possible ten units on this.
