Will the team from Central Switzerland stop the promoted team?

FC Thun returned to the top Swiss league this summer with great fanfare after a long absence. The Bernese Oberland side got off to an excellent start in the country’s top flight with a 2-1 away win in Lugano and even managed to repeat this victory on home turf (2-1 against Lausanne). If the 2005 Champions League participants can now also win away at Lucerne, Thun’s dream start would be complete.

However, this is countered by the fact that FCL has also got off to a good start with four out of a possible six points. The team from central Switzerland is also unbeaten in six meetings with the Red and Whites (four wins, two draws) and will go into this home game motivated to pull the plug on the promoted team. We expect a lively game with a goal or two, which is why the double chance 1X with over 1.5 goals is the obvious choice for Lucerne against Thun.

It is striking that both teams have scored in each of their first two games. Both teams have already scored four goals, but neither kept a clean sheet in either of their first two games. It therefore makes sense to go for the usual goal markets in this match. There is sufficient value to be found in betting on over 2.5 goals and on both teams scoring. A combination of both would also be conceivable.

Luzern – Thun Head-to-head record / H2H record

Head to head: 19 – 19 – 22

A total of 60 matches have already taken place between the two teams, with FC Thun leading the head-to-head record with 22 wins. However, the team from Central Switzerland is currently unbeaten in six matches against FC Thun (four wins, two draws), although there was a 2-4 defeat on penalties in the 2022/23 Swiss Cup, which is counted as a draw in this record. Lucerne’s last real defeat dates back to a Super League home game in August 2019, which FCL lost 0-2 to the Bernese Oberland team.

Lucerne – Thun Tip

FC Thun has made an excellent return to Switzerland’s top flight under promotion-winning coach Mauro Lustrinelli, celebrating a perfect start with two 2-1 wins.

Now, however, the Bernese Oberlanders are away to a strong Central Swiss side who are also unbeaten (one win, one draw) and have not lost any of their last six games against FCT (four wins, two draws). It is therefore quite possible that the confident newcomers will stumble for the first time.

It is striking that both teams have already scored four goals, but have failed to keep a clean sheet in either of their first two league games. This suggests that we could see a high-scoring match at the Swissporarena. As we believe that FCL are capable of taking the first points off Thun, we recommend a combined bet on the double chance 1X with over 1.5 goals.
