Who will win the first national title of the season?

For the first time this year, the title match between the German champions and the cup winners will be held under the name Franz-Beckenbauer-Supercup in honor of the soccer legend who passed away in January 2024. This is the 25th edition of the competition, which FC Bayern has already won ten times.

After Munich came away empty-handed twice in a row, the €40,000 challenge cup is set to make its way back to the Isar on Saturday. As this is the first competitive game of the new season for both finalists, it is extremely difficult to predict the outcome of the match between VfB Stuttgart and Bayern.

Apart from that, the VfB Stuttgart vs. Bayern prediction is of course overshadowed by the transfer row surrounding national player and shooting star Nick Woltemade. The Swabian club’s management has set a deadline until kick-off to decide whether the 23-year-old will move to the Bavarian capital this summer or remain loyal to the cup winners (for the time being). In recent weeks, the record champions have repeatedly improved their offers for the tall offensive player, but despite a transfer fee of just under 70 million euros, an agreement still seems far off.

This weekend, the top scorer of the U21 European Championship will therefore most likely be in the starting line-up of his current club and will do everything in his power to bring the next title to Baden-Württemberg. This mission certainly seems possible, even though the latest betting odds ahead of the Super Cup final between VfB Stuttgart and Bayern Munich are lower for Kompany’s team.

VfB Stuttgart – Statistics & current form

Compared to many other Bundesliga rivals, VfB Stuttgart has had a relatively quiet summer, apart from the ongoing saga surrounding Nick Woltemade. Unlike last year, when several key players turned their backs on the club and signed better-paid contracts with other clubs, this time the core of the team has been kept together. Only the departure of Enzo Millot to Saudi Arabia hurts, but it brought in €28 million in compensation. The money was primarily reinvested in young players. The future in Bad Cannstatt is supposed to belong to youngsters Darvich, Andrés, and Jovanovic.

VfB Stuttgart can beat any team at home!

Coach Sebastian Hoeneß’s team also kept a low profile in terms of friendly matches. Only four preparatory games were played. There were deserved victories against Celta Vigo (2-1) and Toulouse (6-0), but a narrow defeat (0-1) in the dress rehearsal against FC Bologna a week ago. However, the focus was primarily on training. The Swabians’ main goal this season is to better handle the double burden of European and domestic competitions. At best, after finishing ninth last season, they will be aiming for a Champions League spot, i.e., a top-four finish.

Although the 2024/25 Bundesliga season has not gone according to plan, the cup winners are still one of the strongest home teams and most dangerous attacking sides in the top flight. Thirty-five goals in 17 home games are proof of this, as are their home wins in the DFB Cup against RB Leipzig and Augsburg.

Because the men in the breast ring also have home advantage on Saturday evening, I am deliberately refraining from predicting a Munich victory between VfB Stuttgart and Bayern. Instead, I am leaning towards a lively encounter between two evenly matched sides with goals at both ends.

A corresponding bet at Betano comes with maximum odds of 1.52. However, to unlock the Betano bonus, you need higher odds, which you can put together yourself using the Bet Builder, for example.

Predicted line-up:
Bredlow – Vagnoman, Jaquez, Chabot, Mittelstädt – Leweling, Karazor, Stiller, Führich – Undav, Woltemade

Bayern – Statistics & current form

FC Bayern aspires to compete for every major title, not only nationally but also internationally. However, the Munich club failed to achieve this in the past CL season, as it did in the Club World Cup in the USA. The DFB Cup also did not go to the Isar for the second year in a row. At least Vincent Kompany won the championship in his first season. In general, the coach, who is still relatively inexperienced at this level, is perceived very positively by the public. However, that could change quickly if the start of the new season does not go well.

Will Luis Diaz celebrate a perfect debut at FC Bayern?

In my opinion, the summer transfer window did not necessarily strengthen FCB. On the contrary: with legend Thomas Müller, Leroy Sané, and Kingsley Coman, three attacking players left the club. In return, an exorbitant sum was spent on 28-year-old Luis Diaz. However, the squad still seems far from complete, especially in attack.

Of course, the individual quality is still huge. By the way, if you want to bet on Diaz scoring in his competitive debut, you can get odds of up to 2.85 at Interwetten before the VfB Stuttgart vs. Bayern match.

It is difficult to assess at the moment what kind of shape the boys from Säbener Straße will be in when they kick off the new season on Saturday evening. However, the impressions from the friendly matches were decent, at least. Tottenham were beaten 4-0 and Lyon 2-1. The dress rehearsal against Grasshoppers Zurich also ended in a 2-1 win, with youngster Lennart Karl catching the eye.

In any case, the FCB offense is always capable of scoring goals, which, in conjunction with a very high defensive line, leads me to take a closer look at the odds for over goals between VfB Stuttgart and Bayern. Over 3.5 goals after 90 minutes looks just as interesting as over 1.5 goals in the first half!

Predicted line-up:
Neuer – Laimer, Upamecano, Tah, Stanisic – Kimmich, Goretzka – Olise, Karl, Diaz – Kane

VfB Stuttgart – Bayern Head-to-head record / H2H record

VfB Stuttgart has won just 19 of a total of 112 Bundesliga matches against Bayern. However, 13 of those 19 victories came in front of their home crowd. The Swabians have lost 12 of their last 13 Bundesliga home games against Munich. Goals have usually been on the agenda.

Since 2017, there have never been fewer than three goals in this fixture. In nine of the last eleven meetings, there have even been more than 3.5 goals. This was also the case in both games last season. Stuttgart lost 1-3 to FCB at home in the second half of the season. The eventual champions even won 4-0 at the Allianz Arena.

VfB Stuttgart – Bayern Tip

The first title in Germany will be awarded on Saturday evening at the MHPArena. The Super Cup between the league champions and cup winners will be played for the 25th time. The champions have prevailed 15 times so far, while the DFB Cup winners have come out on top on nine occasions. There will be no extra time at the weekend, as the match between VfB Stuttgart and Bayern will go straight to penalties if the score is level after 90 minutes.

Regardless of which team ultimately leaves the pitch as the winner, I am firmly convinced that the fans in attendance will see a high-scoring final. Both teams pursue an offensive approach. Defensively, they have their occasional hiccups. In addition, the most recent direct duels have always been spectacular.

I’m therefore going to try my luck between VfB Stuttgart and Bayern by betting that the ball will cross the goal line at least twice in the first half. Bet-at-Home is offering odds of 2.00 for this. I’m betting five units.
