Two potential Super Bowl contenders face off in a direct duel!
A real treat awaits at the end of the third week! In Monday Night Football, two teams that are capable of great things this season will face off. This promises to be a highly exciting match at M&T Bank Stadium in Maryland, even though the markets have picked a clear favorite for a Baltimore Ravens vs. Detroit Lions tip.
This means that the odds for a home win are a maximum of 1.40. Judging by the teams’ first two performances of the season, this assessment is entirely justified, despite both teams having the same 1-1 record. While the hosts were thoroughly convincing in both games, Detroit’s start to the season has been sobering!
After scoring 40 points in their opener against the Bills, Baltimore scored 41 points against their division rivals from Cleveland. This means that John Harbaugh’s team is, of course, clearly leading the league in terms of points per game. It is certainly not a bold prediction to say that they will not be able to maintain this pace in the long term. However, the truth is that there is currently hardly any other team in the NFL that looks so solid on offense.
Most recently against the Browns, the offense, led by quarterback Lamar Jackson, clearly demonstrated that it can win games with the help of the passing game when the opponent consistently stops the running game. That’s why we at Betano are predicting that the Ravens vs. Lions matchup will exceed the highest point total of the entire game day. This is set at over/under 53.5 points.
Speaking of 53! Dan Campbell’s team scored almost as many points – 52, to be precise – against the Chicago Bears last week in their “bounce-back game.” After a 13-27 defeat in Wisconsin in their opener, the Detroit offense really got into gear last week and swept aside any initial doubts about the new offensive coordinator.
Concerns about the new defensive coordinator have not been completely eradicated, even though last week’s performance was rock solid. Overall, however, these points all fuel the already teased prediction that at least 54 points will find their way onto the scoreboard, promising a very attractive Monday Night Game.
Baltimore Ravens – Detroit Lions Head-to-head comparison / H2H record
Detroit also proved in their home opener what an offensive monster this unit can be. The offense racked up a total of 511 yards against Chicago, 334 of which were via pass. Quarterback Jared Goff threw an incredible five touchdown passes. Three of them were caught by German-American Amon-Ra St. Brown.
Tuesday night’s game is only the eighth direct meeting between the two franchises! This matchup took place for the first time in 1998, and Baltimore has won six of the seven games played so far. Detroit’s only victory came at home at Ford Field in 2005. Since then, the Ravens have won all of the games. This means that Lions head coach Campbell has also remained winless in two games against John Harbaugh.
Baltimore Ravens – Detroit Lions Tip
Based on our analysis, it comes as no surprise that we are choosing the over points odds for the Baltimore Ravens vs. Detroit Lions matchup. Both offenses made a huge impression last week, if not before, making this option an obvious choice.
On average, 69.5 points were scored in Ravens games this season, and 56.5 points in Lions games. The 53.5-point mark should therefore definitely be breakable.
Overall, we agree with the bookmakers that the hosts are the better team at this point in time. However, and on this point we disagree with the markets, we do not see the gap between the two franchises as being that big. With the help of the +4.5 point handicap, we are going for a win for the visitors.
