Are the offensive knots too tight?

The start of the season has not been ideal for either team, mainly due to their offensive engines stalling. Only bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United (one point), their city rivals Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton Athletic (three points each) scored fewer goals than Millwall (four) and Watford (five) in the first five matchdays of the EFL Championship. Accordingly, the tip for Millwall vs. Watford is that there won’t be too many goals at the venerable The Den in southeast London.

The record slightly favors the home side, who have won four of their last six games against the Hornets (one draw, one defeat). However, the Lions lost 3-2 to Watford FC in their last home game. This makes it very difficult to predict the outcome of Millwall vs. Watford in the three-way system at this stage of the season, which is why we are sticking with our initial impulse and recommending a bet that two lackluster offenses will fail to break the deadlock on the sixth matchday, resulting in a maximum of two goals.

On the last matchday against the similarly tame Charleton Athletic, Millwall could not get past a 1-1 draw. However, the Lions celebrated a minor success in the EFL Cup, where they faced an old rival in a derby on Tuesday evening. The second division team even managed a 1-1 draw against FA Cup winners Crystal Palace, but then had to admit defeat in a penalty shootout.

Watford, on the other hand, failed to score at home against Blackburn last Saturday (0-1). A reasonable alternative is therefore to bet on a maximum of one team scoring, which can be played at odds of 1.80 at Bet-at-home for Millwall against Watford.

Millwall – Watford Head-to-head record

Head to head: 46 – 29 – 34

A total of 109 matches have been played between the two teams so far, with Millwall FC leading the head-to-head record against the Hornets with 46 wins. The Lions have also won four of their last six league games against Watford FC (one draw, one defeat), but suffered their only defeat in this period in their last home game. In 2024/25, the Yellow Army took all three points from The Den with a 3-2 away win.

Millwall – Watford Tip

Although the betting odds from the best bookmakers are leaning towards the home side in Millwall vs. Watford, there isn’t really much value to be found in betting on a home win for the Lions, especially since the South East Londoners just lost their last home game against the Hornets 2-3. However, it’s unlikely that there will be as many goals at The Den this time around. After five league games, the visitors from Hertfordshire have only scored five goals. The Lions, meanwhile, have only scored four times.

In our opinion, the prediction for Millwall vs. Watford is therefore likely to be a low-scoring match.
