Will Wolfsburg start with a win in the premier class?
While the men’s teams already played their second matchday in Europe’s premier competition last week, the Women’s Champions League kicks off this week. German representatives VfL Wolfsburg face Paris Saint-Germain in their opening game. It’s anything but an easy task, yet the odds for a Wolfsburg vs. PSG Women tip point in the direction of the hosts.
We find this assessment entirely reasonable. Both teams have only had national competitions to contend with so far this season, but Wolfsburg’s women’s team has made a much better impression than their upcoming opponents. In addition, our Wolfsburg vs. PSG women’s prediction sees a slight quality advantage for the Bundesliga club, which is why we are leaning towards a home win.
Wolfsburg have scored a total of 23 goals in their last three games, while PSG’s defense has looked extremely shaky in their away games so far this season. Stephan Lerch’s team will naturally be looking to continue their goal-scoring form against the French runners-up.
Wolfsburg – PSG Women Head-to-head record
The two teams have faced each other four times so far, always in the Champions League. The Wolves lead the comparison slightly with two wins. PSG won only one match, and there was also a draw. However, that one win was enough for Paris to advance to the final in the 2014/15 Champions League semifinals. Two years ago, however, Wolfsburg prevailed in the quarterfinals of the 2022/23 season.
However, the bookies consider another PSG triumph to be rather unlikely on Wednesday, as the home team is favored according to the Wolfsburg vs. PSG women’s betting odds.
Wolfsburg – PSG women’s tip
It was a successful start to the new season for the VfL Wolfsburg women’s soccer team. The season opener draw against HSV was followed by four Bundesliga wins in a row. Last weekend, bottom-of-the-table Essen was defeated 8-0. The Wolfsburg women are therefore ready for Europe’s premier competition, but PSG on Wednesday will be a completely different caliber than Essen.
At the national level, FC Bayern has outstripped the Lower Saxony team in recent seasons. Once again, they had to settle for second place last season. In Europe’s premier competition, Stephan Lerch’s team has been waiting for its next triumph for eleven years now. Two years ago, VfL made it to the final, but Barcelona proved too strong. They are making a new attempt this season, and their current form gives reason to hope that they could go far in the tournament again.
In their last three competitive games, Lerch’s goal-hungry team scored a total of 23 goals. Admittedly, none of their recent opponents have been of the caliber of PSG. Nevertheless, we believe Alexandra Popp’s offense is capable of scoring against the French champions, which is why “Wolfsburg Over 1.5 Goals” is certainly not a bad betting option for the upcoming match.
Many eyes will naturally be on the former captain of the national team again. After ending her national team career last year, Alexandra Popp would naturally like to celebrate another international success. The women of PSG, whose season start was not quite as successful as that of VfL Wolfsburg, naturally have something to say about that.
In the domestic league, the opening record is mixed with two wins, one draw, and one defeat. Last weekend, PSG needed a penalty to secure a narrow 1-0 win against Dijon. However, PSG have lost ground in both of their away games so far. In particular, the 6-1 defeat to champions Olympique Lyon made it clear who is number one in France.
