Will Hanfmann win his first duel against Arnaldi?
Two German players are in the main draw of the 2025 BNP Paribas Fortis European Open. We are focusing on one of them in our Hanfmann vs. Arnaldi tip. The 33-year-old has recently come into the public eye with his formidable performance in Shanghai.
Just like in our Hanfmann vs. Arnaldi prediction, the Karlsruhe native fought his way through the Masters tournament qualifiers and faced an Italian in the first round. The German not only defeated Lorenzo Sonego (2:1), but also knocked Frances Tiafoe out of the tournament (2:1).
The Karlsruhe native almost achieved an even bigger sensation afterwards. In the third round, he was scheduled to face Novak Djokovic. Hanfmann showed his best tennis, won the first set and was the better player until the end of the second set. However, Djokovic found a solution in time and turned the match around.
For the past nine years, the BNP Paribas Fortis European Open has been held in Antwerp. For this season, the event has been moved to the Belgian capital. Perhaps that is why the Hanfmann vs. Arnaldi betting odds are so even – Brussels is the 33-year-old’s adopted home.
Matteo Arnaldi has been lacking consistency in his game this calendar year. Last year, he reached the top 30 for the first time in his career. Now, the 24-year-old has slipped back down the rankings (74th) and has been waiting for two wins in a row since July. At Interwetten, we recommend odds of 2.20 for “3 sets in the match.”
Yannick Hanfmann – Matteo Arnaldi Head-to-head comparison / H2H record
The two opponents have never met on the ATP Tour before. However, Arnaldi has already played several matches against German professionals this calendar year. Most of these matches did not end well for the Italian. Arnaldi lost three of four matches against German players this season, winning only his first-round match against Daniel Altmaier (2:1) in Washington.
Compared to Hanfmann (8-11), Arnaldi (19-22) has played significantly more matches at tour level this calendar year. However, both have a negative season record on the ATP Tour. The German may benefit from his good form in this matchup.
Yannick Hanfmann – Matteo Arnaldi Tip
The past few weeks have gone pretty well for Yannick Hanfmann. He advanced to the semifinals at the Challenger tournament in Jingshan (on hard court) and surprised the crowd in Shanghai by reaching the third round of the Masters tournament after battling his way through qualifying.
His increased confidence also helped him in qualifying for this tournament. In the second qualifying round, Hanfmann came back from a 0-1 set deficit to defeat Tibo Colson and become the second German tennis pro to advance to the main draw.
Arnaldi was able to skip qualifying, but was not necessarily happy with his performances in previous matches. The Italian has won only two sets in his last three matches and finished his Asian trip with three losses and only two wins (including qualifying rounds).
After missing two Grand Slam tournaments in a row, Hanfmann has once again impressed on the big stage and left a lasting impression at the Masters tournament in Shanghai. We are looking forward to an exciting match between Hanfmann and Arnaldi that will go the full distance.
