The duel on the dugouts stands out
For the first time ever, Xabi Alonso and Pep Guardiola will face each other as coaches in a direct duel on Wednesday evening. The two coaches share a special history, as midfielder Xabi Alonso once played 79 competitive games for FC Bayern under Pep. The current Real coach makes no secret of the fact that he admires the work of his former boss and that Guardiola was one of the main reasons he moved to Munich at the time.
However, there is no time for sentimentality and expressions of sympathy, as there is too much at stake in the clash between two of the top teams in European football. The Real Madrid vs. Manchester City prediction is naturally influenced by the recent dip in form of Los Blancos.
The Madrid team has won only two of its last seven competitive games. In La Liga, it has won only one of its last five matches. A relatively comfortable lead at the top of the table has turned into a four-point deficit behind FC Barcelona. At least in the Champions League, however, the star ensemble from the Spanish capital is still on target in fifth place. However, if the prediction of three away points proves true in Real Madrid’s home game against Manchester City, the Galacticos would even have to let their upcoming opponents from the island pass them.
However, the Citizens are under pressure themselves after their 2-0 defeat at home to Bayer Leverkusen. Another defeat would see them slip further away from the top 8. At least their current form, with three Premier League wins in a row, is impressive.
The Real Madrid vs. Manchester City odds paint an almost completely balanced picture. Instead of a risky bet on the 1X2 market, it may be a good idea to bet on a high-scoring match. It is clear that both teams have their strengths in offense, but have recently shown weaknesses in defense.
Real Madrid vs. Manchester City Prediction AI
On paper, the match between Real Madrid and Manchester City is certainly the most notable on Matchday 6 of the UEFA Champions League. While the bookmakers do not want to commit to a final favorite in terms of betting odds, artificial intelligence dares to make a much clearer Real Madrid vs. Manchester City AI prediction. According to AI, there is definitely value to be had, as the 2.50 offered by Interwetten on a home win significantly exceeds the simulated probability implied odds of 2.12.
Real Madrid – Statistics & current form
At Real Madrid, unrest off the pitch is currently taking over. According to media reports, coach Xabi Alonso is on the verge of being sacked. The relationship between several stars and the coach is said to be so broken that there is no future for the Basque in the Spanish capital. While most of the individualists prefer to do their own thing and play “hero soccer,” Xabi Alonso continues to focus on shaping the team as a collective according to his playing philosophy. The discrepancy is so obvious that if there is another disappointment on Wednesday evening, the days of the Leverkusen championship coach are likely to be numbered.
Will the vain Real stars pull themselves together in the Champions League?
Given the internal squabbles, it is not surprising that the Royals have recently fallen short of their own expectations in terms of results. In the league, there has been only one win in the last five games. The sad low point was Sunday’s 0-2 home defeat to Celta Vigo, which was also accompanied by two red cards. There has also been a noticeable downward trend in the Champions League recently. First, there was a 1-0 defeat in Liverpool, then a lackluster 4-3 win away to Olympiacos Piraeus.
The defense, which was stable at the start of the season, has noticeably weakened. In six of the last nine competitive games, they have conceded at least one goal. And the trend is rising! However, because Kylian Mbappe’s offense is always good for goals and egos may be put aside on an atmospheric Champions League evening against a top opponent, there is every reason to believe that Wednesday evening will be an exciting affair.
Ahead of the Real Madrid vs. Manchester City match, I am therefore checking the odds on both teams scoring and at least one goal being scored in each half.

Manchester City – Statistics & current form
The mood at Manchester City is much more positive at the moment. After a completely botched and, above all, title-less 2024/25 season, the Skyblues have now rediscovered their identity. In this season’s very balanced Premier League, the multiple champions are in a promising second place. Thanks to a positive run, the gap to leaders Arsenal, which had grown to eight points, has been reduced to two points. Five of the last six PL games have been won. Across all competitions, there have been seven wins from the last nine encounters.
Their good form can therefore be cited as an argument for predicting that the visitors will pick up a point in the Real Madrid vs. Manchester City match. If the top teams share the points after 90 minutes, you can bet on an extremely valuable 3.95 at Bet-at-home.
Pep will not experiment again
However, the Citizens have recently suffered a number of setbacks in the UEFA Champions League. Looking at all CL matches since November 2024, their win rate is a disappointing 50 percent (6 out of 12). In the current season, the English side lost ground with a C-team at home against Leverkusen (0-2) and in Monaco (2-2). However, the recent defeat against Xabi Alonso’s former team means that Pep Guardiola will field his best team in Madrid. After all, a win would see the Sky Blues overtake Real in the table and put them on course for the round of 16.
Erling Haaland, who has scored more goals than any other player since his debut in the Champions League in 2019/20, is logically part of the starting eleven. The Norwegian is still having an outstanding season and is of course a contender to score again on Wednesday. The same goes for Kylian Mbappe on the Madrid side.
The Frenchman, who can look forward to facing Haaland and Norway in the group stage of the World Cup, leads the Champions League scoring charts with nine goals. In his seven personal appearances against Man City, the striker has scored eight points. If Haaland and Mbappe each score at least one goal in the head-to-head matchup, Betano would offer odds of 3.20 for the Real Madrid vs. Manchester City game!

Real Madrid – Manchester City Head-to-head comparison / H2H record
Since 2012/13, these two clubs have faced each other 14 times. No other match has been played more often at European level in the last 13 years than Real Madrid vs. Manchester City. With five wins, five draws, and four defeats, Real Madrid has a narrow lead. The clubs faced each other in the playoffs just last season.
Real Madrid won the first leg 3-2 and the second leg 3-1. This matchup generally guarantees goals. In ten of the last eleven encounters, both teams have scored. On average, four goals have been scored in the last five encounters since spring 2023.
Real Madrid – Manchester City Tip
How will Xabi Alonso’s fateful game against Manchester City end? If media reports are to be believed, the Basque is on the verge of being sacked by the Madrid club. Only a convincing home win can improve his tarnished standing in the Spanish capital and among the vain stars. However, given the current form with only two wins from the last seven games and internal disagreements, I am not a fan of betting on a home win for Los Blancos. There is more to be said for the Skyblues. A draw should not be ruled out either.
But I find it most interesting to bet on over goals between Real Madrid and Manchester City. A match combo of “both teams to score” and at least one goal in each half yields a solid 1.72, which I’m betting on with six units. Alternatively, you can also bet on Haaland and Mbappe as goal scorers.
