Will Real Betis remain undefeated away from home?

On Monday, we conclude the 16th matchday of the Spanish top flight with the clash between Rayo Vallecano and Real Betis. For us, one team in particular is in the spotlight, and that is the visitors. Manuel Pellegrini’s team has developed tremendously in recent years and now even belongs to the extended circle of top teams in Europe.

Los Verdiblancos proved this again during the week in the Europa League. With a 3-1 win against Dinamo Zagreb and 14 points from six games, the Spaniards are one of the best teams in the competition. In our opinion, even the title is a realistic goal. We are therefore somewhat surprised that the odds on the visitors are so high in the match between Rayo Vallecano and Betis Sevilla.

However, the results in the Europa League are not the only reason why we cannot quite understand the betting odds offered by the bookmakers. The home team, also known as Rayito (red lightning), only plays in the Conference League, which is the “worst” of the three European competitions.

Although Inigo Perez’s team is in seventh place there, they have only won against teams such as Neman Grodno (qualifiers), Shkendija, Jagiellonia, and Lech Poznan. So there are no big names here. In our Rayo Vallecano vs. Betis Sevilla prediction, we are therefore leaning towards the slight underdog early on.

Betis has not only played more successful soccer in recent years, but also has significantly more individual quality. However, that’s not the tip of the iceberg, because in La Liga, “Los Verdiblancos” (6th place) are also well ahead of the hosts (12th place). In addition, Inigo Perez’s team is also in much weaker form, winning only one of its last seven games.

By comparison, the visiting team has lost only one of its last 10 (!) competitive games, and that was 3-5 against the current Spanish league leaders from Barcelona. So for us, the question is: what else speaks in favor of the home team, or what speaks against the away team? Nothing, which is why we are leaning towards the Rayo Vallecano vs. Betis Sevilla odds in favor of the away team.

Rayo Vallecano – Betis Sevilla Head-to-head comparison / H2H record

However, we did find one point that could give the home team some encouragement. “Los Franjirrojos” have remained unbeaten in their last three matches against Betis, taking five points off Manuel Pellegrini’s team. Conversely, this also means that RVM only won one of these three games.

If we look further back into the past, the positive H2H comparison quickly turns into something negative. Of the last 15 encounters, the Madrid team has only won one game. It is therefore completely incomprehensible to us why the Rayo Vallecano vs. Betis Sevilla betting odds favor a home win.

Rayo Vallecano – Betis Sevilla Tip

Of course, any good analysis also includes a look at the home and away records of both teams. Normally, most teams perform slightly better at home than away. However, this is not the case in this matchup. The home team has only picked up 16 points from nine games at home, celebrating four home wins against Neman Grodno, Shkendija, Lech Posten, and Alaves.

If we also take into account that the visitors have not lost a single game away from home, the supposed home advantage quickly becomes a thing of the past. Therefore, we recommend betting on Rayo Vallecano vs. Betis Sevilla for a point win for the away team.

Alternatively, you can also add the odds for “both teams to score – yes” to your betting slip. In our opinion, the home team is clearly inferior, but they have scored in each of their last three matches against Betis. In addition, both clubs have found the back of the net in eight of their last ten encounters.

This is mainly because the visitors are nowhere near as strong defensively as they are offensively. If the hosts want to take home any points, they will definitely need to score.
