How will Gasperini’s return go?
For nine years, Gian Piero Gasperini steered the fortunes of Atalanta Bergamo, standing for thrilling attacking football and even leading the Lombards to overall victory in the UEFA Europa League in the summer of 2024. Since last summer, however, the 67-year-old has been working for AS Roma and is returning to his old stomping ground for the first time with his new employer.
While he has clearly left a big gap in Lombardy, as evidenced by Bergamo’s disappointing tenth place in the table, he has also recently experienced a minor crisis in results with the Giallorossi. Three of their last five league games have been lost (two wins), which is why betting on Atalanta Bergamo to win a point against AS Roma is by no means a sure thing.
“La Dea” is doing better and better under Raffaele Palladino, winning six of their last eight competitive games (two defeats). Nevertheless, the Bergamo team has struggled to score goals at times, as evidenced by their tally of just 20 goals in 17 league games. Considering that Roma have the best defense in the country, we believe that Atalanta will score a maximum of one goal, regardless of the outcome of the match.
In any case, a goal fest is not to be expected in Lombardy, as “La Dea” also defends very well. 19 goals conceded in 17 league games is only an average figure in Serie A. However, the defensively strong Wolves are also struggling in attack. Not a single player in Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad has scored more than four goals this season.
Atalanta Bergamo – AS Roma Head-to-head comparison / H2H record
Head to head: 36 – 43 – 61
A total of 140 matches have been played between the two teams so far, with AS Roma leading the head-to-head record with 61 wins. Recently, however, Atalanta Bergamo has had the upper hand. The Nerazzurri are unbeaten in six Serie A games against the Wolves (five wins, one draw) and also won their last home game against the Giallorossi 2-1 on May 12, 2025. At that time, however, Gian Piero Gasperini was still on the bench for Bergamo…

Atalanta Bergamo – AS Roma Tip
All in all, our prediction for Atalanta Bergamo vs. AS Roma tends to favor the visitors, who have already picked up eleven more points and, despite a minor slump, are still sitting in fourth place in the table, while the Bergamo side are in a disappointing tenth place. Nevertheless, the 2024 Europa League champions have shown a slight upturn in form.
The Nerazzurri have won six of their last eight competitive games across all competitions, but now face the best defense in the country. In 17 Serie A games under former Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini, the players from the Eternal City have conceded just eleven goals – the best record in the league.
Realistically, however, in addition to away wins for the Wolves, results such as a 1-0 home win for the Nerazzurri and a 0-0 or 1-1 draw would not come out of nowhere. What these scenarios have in common, however, is that we expect few goals from the Lombards given Roma’s stable defense, which is ultimately what our betting recommendation is based on.
We are betting five out of ten units on Atalanta Bergamo against AS Roma at odds of 1.65 that “La Dea” will score less than 1.5 goals in this home game.
