Magyars put their faith in Kiel youngster!

The Swiss team narrowly secured their ticket to the main round of the 2026 European Championship. Despite an average haul of three points from their three preliminary round games, it was enough in the end. We now have a tip for the Swiss team’s first appearance in the main round in their match against Hungary!

The Swiss secured their place in the tournament with a 43:26 victory over Montenegro in their final group game. This meant that they won the direct comparison in the battle for second place in Group D against the Faroe Islands, who were level on points, thanks to their superior goal difference.

The main round is already a great success for Helvetia. The country has failed to qualify for the majority (11) of the previous 16 European Championships, and its best result in a continental final tournament was 12th place 22 years ago.

Coach Andy Schmid’s team is also the clear underdog against the Hungarian team. The individual class of the opponents is significantly higher, and with two wins and only one narrow defeat by one goal against the top team from Iceland, the preliminary round was also successful from the Hungarian team’s point of view. For the duel between Switzerland and Hungary, the prediction is again for more than 5.5 goals by Bence Imre for the favorites.

The right winger is one of the country’s greatest talents, and in Kiel, where he plays at club level, there is great sadness that he will be leaving the “Zebras” next summer to join Hungarian record champions One Veszprem. The 23-year-old is also proving his accuracy at the current European Championships, exceeding the selected goal limit in the last two games.

Switzerland – Hungary Head-to-head comparison / H2H record

The Swiss and Hungarians last faced each other in the European Championship qualifiers in March 2023. The Hungarian team won both matches by nine and five goals respectively.

The odds for the upcoming match between Switzerland and Hungary are also clearly in favor of the Eastern Europeans.

Switzerland – Hungary Tip

Hungary finished in a very respectable fifth place at the European Championship two years ago, achieving their best result ever at a European Championship! The team led by Spanish coach Chema Rodriguez wants to build on this success, and a victory against the Swiss team, which is inferior in terms of play, is a must.

The performances in the preliminary round also point to success for the Hungarian team. Hungary recorded two victories against Italy and Poland and even almost achieved a draw against one of the top teams in the tournament, Iceland. With players such as young guns Gergö Fazekas and Bence Imre, the country currently has a strong team that could cause a sensation in the future.

The latter youngster in particular is already in excellent form. The 2024 Hungarian Handball Player of the Year is averaging 6.6 goals in the tournament! In view of this, the betting odds for him to score more than 5.5 goals in the upcoming match between Switzerland and Hungary are attractive.

This is also supported by the fact that he is getting better and better as the tournament progresses. After scoring four points in the opening game against Poland, Imre followed up with nine goals against Italy and even scored seven goals against the strong Icelandic team.
