Can the Blues get Jean-Philippe Mateta under control?

The Eagles are unlikely to repeat their performance from last season. The usual processes have kicked in. Back in the summer, the hosts lost their most talented offensive player, Eberechi Eze, to Arsenal. In addition, center back Marc Guehi recently decided to move to Manchester City. We also already know about the impending departure of Oliver Glasner in our Crystal Palace vs. Chelsea tip.

Last season, the 51-year-old celebrated the club’s greatest success – winning the FA Cup. At the end of this season, the Austrian will leave the club. At the time of our Crystal Palace vs. Chelsea prediction, the home side are in poor form.

Only Burnley (13) have waited longer for a win in the English top flight than the Eagles (7), whose chances of success are considered below average in view of the Crystal Palace – Chelsea betting odds.

Under Oliver Glasner, the Eagles have developed an unfortunate dynamic – they regularly drop points after taking the lead. Since the 51-year-old took charge of the South London club, only three teams have dropped more points after taking the lead than the reigning FA Cup winners (39).

In two of the four Premier League matches since the turn of the year alone, Glasner’s team took the lead but failed to secure the win (1D, 1L). This habit is certainly not helpful in a duel with one of the English Big Six, especially with the historical component of 16 consecutive Premier League matches without a win against Chelsea (3D, 13L).

Crystal Palace – Chelsea Head-to-head record

As mentioned earlier, the Eagles do not have a good record against the Blues. Crystal Palace have taken points off Chelsea three times in a row after previously losing 13 consecutive matches. Of their 34 previous PL encounters with Chelsea, the hosts have only finished three without conceding a goal.

Furthermore, Glasner’s team is currently lacking a bit of spirit in attack. Crystal Palace has not scored more than one goal in any of its last six competitive games and has failed to score in three of its five Premier League matches. Their only hope has been Jean-Philippe Mateta, who has scored six of his club’s last seven home goals.

Crystal Palace – Chelsea Tip

The Blues have made a promising start under Liam Rosenior, although they have yet to get to grips with their typical problems. The 41-year-old has won three of four competitive games with his new club. Only against Arsenal did the team from Stamford Bridge lose (2-3), once again showing enormous vulnerability from set pieces.

Chelsea then showed pragmatism, winning their next two competitive games against Brentford (2-0) and Pafos (1-0) in the Champions League without conceding a goal. With another win, Liam Rosenior could become the first Chelsea manager since Graham Potter (October 2022) to win his first two PL games.

In our opinion, his chances of doing so are pretty good. The form curves of both teams show a clear advantage for the Blues, and the individual level of the visitors is definitely much higher. In addition, Rosenior currently coaches the fourth-best expected offense (38.85 xG).
