Can City improve their terrible record at Anfield?
It has been almost 90 years since Manchester City won both home and away games against Liverpool FC in the English top flight in a single season. However, the drought, which has lasted since 1936/1937, could come to an end late on Sunday afternoon. After Guardiola’s team already won 3-0 at home in the first half of the season, the Citizens are looking to improve their disastrous away record at Anfield Road in the 25th matchday of the Premier League.
Although City are four places and eight points ahead of the reigning champions in the table, the task in the Beatles’ city promises to be very complicated. After all, LFC have lost only one of their last twelve PL matches (5-6-1). Nevertheless, I don’t think the Sky Blues are without a chance, so my Liverpool vs. Manchester City prediction leans more towards the visitors.
Coach Arne Slot’s hosts took out their frustrations on Newcastle United and Qarabag last week. They scored a total of ten goals in their two home games in the Champions League and the league. After five winless PL games, LFC finally got back on track, but as sixth in the table, they are still miles behind their own expectations.
Although the big wins have undoubtedly boosted confidence, it has often been a lack of consistency that has plagued the Reds so far this season. Sometimes the defense allowed too many individual mistakes, sometimes the offense lacked the necessary punch.
My confidence in Wirtz, Ekitike, and Co. has certainly suffered as a result of their inconsistent performances, which is why I am refraining from making a prediction on the home side ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Manchester City. However, if you think it’s too risky to bet on Man City, whether it’s on the double chance, the DNB, or even the three-way away win, you should take a look at the over/under goals.
Three or more goals have been scored in eight of LFC’s last eleven competitive games. Haaland and Co., meanwhile, have scored at least twice in four consecutive games and in six of their last eight.
However, my primary recommendation is for Pep’s team to win a point. I’m even combining X2 with both teams scoring, and I’m getting top odds of 2.20 in the Bet-at-home app ahead of the Liverpool vs. Manchester City match.
Liverpool – Manchester City Head-to-head comparison / H2H record
At the beginning of this text, we already mentioned that Manchester City has a very poor away record at Anfield. The Sky Blues have won just one of their last 22 (!) PL away games at Liverpool FC. They have drawn seven and lost 14 during this period. However, the Reds’ only home defeat came when they were reigning champions – in February 2021.
If history repeats itself and Liverpool, as defending champions, lose again at home to the Citizens in February, this would not only result in provocatively high Liverpool vs. Manchester City betting odds, but also the aforementioned end to the nearly 90-year drought without a MCFC season double against their upcoming opponents. City could also become the first team since West Ham United in 2015/16 to win both legs against Liverpool without conceding a goal. Personally, however, I don’t really believe that will happen.

Liverpool – Manchester City Tip
A real top match awaits us on Sunday afternoon at Anfield Road. Although Liverpool and Manchester City have battled it out for the Premier League title several times in the recent past, it is currently more of a clash between two pursuers.
The Sky Blues, currently in second place, cannot afford any slip-ups, given that they are six points behind Arsenal. However, LFC would also be well advised not to let the gap to the top four grow.
Basically, it is anything but easy to place a bet on this match. For less risk-averse bettors, I would recommend the over 2.5. Those looking for a little more risk can get a solid 2.20 payout for the match combo X2 & Both teams to score. As for potential goal scorers, I have Phil Foden on my list at an attractive maximum odds of 4.70 at Betano. I think a 1-2 or 2-2 result is realistic. The Citizens have a slight advantage due to the fact that they are facing an opponent who not only defends but also wants to play. A high-scoring afternoon seems inevitable.
