Is this the end of the road for Zverev in Indian Wells?
Alexander Zverev has reached a milestone in California. Before the tournament began, he had the lowest win rate of any major tournament (including Grand Slams) at the Indian Wells Masters. Now, he has made it to the semifinals for the first time.
This makes Sascha only the fifth player in ATP Tour history who can claim to have reached the semifinals at least once in every single Masters tournament. However, with Alexander Zverev facing Jannik Sinner, the odds are stacked against the German making his first-ever finals appearance.
Three of his last four matches have even gone without him dropping a single set, with both matches last November—in Paris (6-0, 6-1) and at the ATP Finals in Turin (6-4, 6-3)—being very one-sided affairs. Considering that the Sextner also plowed his way into the semifinals at Indian Wells with four wins without dropping a set and steamrolled Learner Tien (ATP 27) 6-1, 6-2 in just 67 minutes in the quarterfinals, we therefore see the greatest value in betting on a 2-0 victory for the South Tyrolean.
Although Alexander Zverev also put in a strong performance in the quarterfinals against Arthur Fils (ATP 32), dropping only five games in an 83-minute match (6-2, 6-3) and not losing a single service game, the German still allowed three break points against him, while he, in turn, could only convert four of his own eleven break opportunities. Against Jannik Sinner, who converted four out of five break points and won 83 percent of points on his first serve, that could very well tip the scales at this absolute top level.
Alexander Zverev – Jannik Sinner Head-to-Head Record
Head-to-Head: 4:6
Ten matches have taken place between the two players so far, and with six wins, Jannik Sinner now leads the head-to-head series. While Alexander Zverev won four of the first five matches, the player from Sextner has now gone five matches unbeaten against the German number one. In 2025, the South Tyrolean not only defeated Sascha 3-0 in the Australian Open final, but also thoroughly outclassed the Hamburg native in Paris on November 1, 2025, with scores of 6-0 and 6-1.
Alexander Zverev – Jannik Sinner Tip
Although the betting odds from top bookmakers for Alexander Zverev vs. Jannik Sinner clearly favor the Italian, we don’t see enough value in the supposed underdog bet.
The supposedly close head-to-head record is also misleading, as the last five matches between the two players have all gone to the Sextner, who also didn’t drop a single set on his way to the Indian Wells semifinals with four straight 2-0 victories.
Accordingly, in our assessment, it is highly unlikely that Sascha will even force the world No. 2 into a tiebreak, let alone take a set from him. Against this backdrop, our prediction for Alexander Zverev vs. Jannik Sinner is a 2-0 victory for the Italian.
For Sinner to advance to the final without dropping a set—where his rivalry with Carlos Alcaraz could enter its next chapter—Betano is offering odds of 1.53, which we’re betting five out of ten units on.
