Will the promoted side come away empty-handed again?

After 29 of 38 matchdays, newly promoted Elche CF remains where they want to be at the end of the season: above the relegation zone. However, their lead over the first relegation spot is just one point. The problem is that the Franjiverdes have shown two very different sides. While they have earned 25 points at home, placing the team from the province of Alicante eighth in the home standings, they remain the only club in La Liga in 2025/26 to be completely winless in 14 away matches (0-4-10). Accordingly, a bet on a home win for the team from Madrid’s Vallecas district against Elche seems like a logical choice.

Rayo Vallecano isn’t having an exceptionally good season and, following their recent 0-1 loss to FC Barcelona—which ended a six-game unbeaten streak in the league (two wins, four draws)—now sits in 14th place. However, the Madrid side has also made it to the Conference League quarterfinals, where they are clear favorites against AEK Athens. If the Madrid team can now avoid a home loss and secure their league status soon, the season could still turn out to be a complete success with full focus on the Conference League. A home win against a rival struggling on the road would go a long way toward that. That’s exactly what our tip is aiming for.

With a three-point gap between the two teams, the motto for the Madrid side is that a home loss to the promoted team—which is still winless on the road—must be prevented at all costs. It’s quite possible that this will come at the expense of offensive firepower, which is why we also see a lot of value in bets on a game with not too many goals.

Rayo Vallecano – Elche Head-to-Head Record

Head to Head: 12 – 6 – 28

A total of 46 matches have taken place between the two teams so far, and with 28 wins, Elche CF leads the head-to-head record by a wide margin. The Franjiverdes have also won three of their last four La Liga matches against Rayo Vallecano (one loss) and swept the capital side off the field 4-0 in the first leg. Away at El Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas, however, the promoted side has suffered three consecutive losses recently.

Rayo Vallecano – Elche Prediction

Promoted side Elche has not only failed to win any of their 14 La Liga away games in the 2025/26 season (four draws, ten losses), but has also lost all three of their most recent away games at El Campo de Fútbol de Vallecas. Given that the Conference League participant from Madrid has, in turn, lost only one of its last seven La Liga matches (two wins, four draws), our prediction for Rayo Vallecano vs. Elche leans toward a home win for the capital club, which has conceded just five goals in total over its last seven league matches, even though it faced teams like Barcelona (0-1) and Atlético Madrid (3-0).

We expect Rayo to once again adopt a very defensive approach to keep the chasing pack from the province of Alicante at bay at all costs and avoid being dragged into the relegation battle. A neutral bet on under 2.5 goals would therefore also be conceivable. Ultimately, however, we expect the Conference League quarterfinalist to secure a much-needed home win against a visiting team that struggles on the road.
