Will BVB end the season on a high note in front of their home crowd?
At Borussia Dortmund, they’re currently counting down the days until the end of the season and the start of the offseason. For several weeks now, the air has gone out of the second-place team, which needs just one more point to mathematically secure the runner-up spot. Coach Niko Kovac has been experimenting a lot, throwing young players into the mix, yet he still has to answer for the team’s recent poor performances.
Nevertheless, the Croatian’s contract is set to be extended. To strengthen his case, it would be important for BVB to bid a conciliatory farewell to their own fans on Friday evening in their final home game of the 2025/26 season. For that to happen, the tip for Black and Yellow should ideally come true in the match between Dortmund and Frankfurt!
However, Eintracht Frankfurt is traveling to the Ruhr region as an opponent for whom there is still a lot at stake in the remaining two matchdays. In their head-to-head with SC Freiburg, seventh place is on the line, which would definitely qualify them for another year of European competition. The only problem is that things are currently in disarray at SGE as well.
Coach Albert Riera is facing massive criticism. Rumor has it that his continued employment beyond the summer may hinge on the next two matches and the team’s final standing in the table. Curiously, this very circumstance supports my overall BVB vs. Frankfurt prediction in favor of the hosts.
All in all, I expect Dortmund to be desperate to bounce back from last week’s poor performance. Additionally, the Black and Yellows are determined to give deserving players like Julian Brandt and Niklas Süle a fitting send-off. Added to this is Frankfurt’s poor form; they are currently, in a sense, tearing themselves apart and have been falling short of their own expectations for weeks.
Dortmund vs. Frankfurt AI Prediction
On five of the last seven matchdays, the AI tips for the Bundesliga were satisfactory and delivered a positive return. This makes it all the more exciting to see what the AI has come up with for the Dortmund vs. Frankfurt match. According to the artificial intelligence, Borussia is the clear favorite (59.1%). Furthermore, xG values of 2.07 vs. 1.09 equally suggest that there will be no more than three goals in total.
Dortmund – Stats & Current Form
Since Matchday 15 of this season, Borussia Dortmund has consistently held second place in the table. With two matchdays remaining and a five-point lead over RB Leipzig (3rd), everything points to this position remaining unchanged after Matchday 34. For BVB, it would be their tenth runner-up finish in Bundesliga history; for Niko Kovac, it would be his first as a coach.
BVB Coach Kovac appeals to his players’ attitude
If we set aside the disappointing elimination from the UEFA Champions League against Atalanta Bergamo and the relatively early exit from the cup against Bayer Leverkusen in hindsight, the Black and Yellows must be credited with a very solid year in the Bundesliga. To be honest, however, the points tally could have been even better if complacency hadn’t crept into the team’s play in recent weeks. Three of the team’s total of just five Bundesliga losses in 2025/26 came in the last four matchdays.
While some optimistic fans aren’t judging the team too harshly and point out that a drop in intensity following the lost “duel” with FC Bayern is only human, a increasingly hardline faction is also forming that is heavily criticizing the front office, including the coaching staff. Above all, Niko Kovac’s apparently imminent contract extension is polarizing the fan base.
It will therefore be interesting to see how the unrest affects the team. The fact is that the coach is demanding another focused performance in their own stadium to close out the season and will do everything in his power to secure three points. Their home form, which was also evident two weeks ago in the 4-0 home win against Freiburg, must be cited as a key factor. The fact that Friday night’s match will be played under the lights is another reason why I’m leaning toward a home win in the Dortmund vs. Frankfurt matchup.

Frankfurt – Stats & Current Form
Four wins, four draws, and four losses—that’s Albert Riera’s record since taking over at the start of the year. His points average is lower than that of his predecessor, Dino Toppmöller, this season. But what weighs even more heavily on the extroverted Spaniard than a lack of results is his polarizing personality.
The former pro rubs people the wrong way—with the team, the fans, and, most recently, increasingly with the media. Riera comes across as lacking confidence, too emotional, and at times even know-it-all. At the latest following the public rebuke from sporting director Markus Krösche and the subsequent home loss to Hamburger SV, the relationship appears to have broken down. Many experts now agree that there will be another change in the coaching position in Frankfurt this summer.
How deadlocked is the Riera situation in Frankfurt?
At least for the next two matches, Albert Riera is thus being given a sort of grace period, though this seems risky given that Eintracht Frankfurt still needs to secure seventh place and thereby book their ticket to European competition. However, considering their recent performances and the fact that they’ve won only one of their last six Bundesliga matches, I’m very skeptical. At the same time, the latest results provide enough reasons to consider the betting odds on 1X & Both Teams to Score for the BVB vs. Frankfurt match.
In six consecutive matches involving Eintracht, both teams have scored at least one goal. A total of eleven goals were conceded in the past six encounters, averaging nearly two per game.

BVB – Frankfurt Head-to-Head Record
At the start of the year, the two clubs put on a real spectacle in the first leg. At Deutsche Bank Park, the score was 3-3 after an intense 90 minutes. At the time, however, Dino Toppmöller was still on the bench for SGE. Incidentally, it was already the second matchup of the current season, after BVB narrowly prevailed 4-2 on penalty kicks in the DFB Cup at the end of October. At home, meanwhile, the Black and Yellows have four consecutive wins and a 14-3 goal difference. The last time Dortmund lost to their upcoming opponents from the Main metropolis in front of their own fans was in 2021.
Dortmund – Frankfurt Prediction
Unrest is currently part of daily life at Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt. This is partly due to the fact that two polarizing coaches are sitting on the benches. While Niko Kovac at BVB is even facing a contract extension, Albert Riera at SGE is merely on probation.
Although the Black and Yellows have lost three of their last four Bundesliga matches, I see them coming out on top on Friday night. Floodlights, the final home game of the season, and an opponent in poor form are the compelling arguments for my prediction.
Eintracht has won only one of its last six league matches, conceding nearly two goals per game on average once again, and has also struggled greatly at Signal Iduna Park in the past. I’m therefore leaning toward a BVB vs. Frankfurt tip for a home win. This is priced at 1.50 at Bet-at-home. My fictional stake is seven units.
