Who will be crowned champion?

Chelsea FC and Manchester City will face off in the FA Cup final at the historic Wembley Stadium in London. For the Citizens, this is already their fourth consecutive FA Cup final—though they lost the last two. For the Blues, however, it is their first final since the 2021/22 season—a match they lost to Liverpool FC at the time.

So far, Chelsea and Manchester City have faced off ten times in various English cup competitions. Since 2017, there have been six matches in the English Cup, and in not a single one did both teams score. In our Chelsea vs. Manchester City prediction, we’re therefore betting on “Both Teams to Score – No.”

Chelsea FC is currently in very poor form. Of their last nine competitive matches, they haven’t won a single one outside of the FA Cup and have squandered their Champions League spot in the league. Furthermore, they failed to score in six of those nine games and suffered a 0-3 defeat against their upcoming opponent from Manchester, among others.

However, this weakness of the Blues against City in head-to-head matches is nothing new. Since the 2021/22 season, CFC has gone winless in 13 competitive matches against the Sky Blues in league and cup competitions. This includes three shutout losses in the League Cup and FA Cup, as well as seven losses in ten Premier League matches.

Manchester City, on the other hand, is in fantastic form and has gone unbeaten in its last 20 competitive matches, excluding the Champions League. The Sky Blues played a midweek make-up match against Crystal Palace, which they won despite rotating their lineup, keeping Guardiola’s side firmly in the hunt for the Premier League title.

Added to this is their dominance over Chelsea in cup competitions, having won all three meetings since 2022 without conceding a goal. However, low-scoring matches are a hallmark of these encounters when they take place in a cup tie. In the last seven meetings, there has been only one match with more than two goals—a 4-0 win in the third round of the 2023 FA Cup. We are therefore betting on the Chelsea vs. Manchester City odds for under 2.5 goals in this final.

Chelsea – Manchester City Head-to-Head Record

In the head-to-head history between Chelsea FC and Manchester City, 167 competitive matches have been played so far. Both teams have scored 223 goals each. Chelsea has won 64 matches, while Manchester City has celebrated 61 victories. 42 matches ended in a draw. The matches span various competitions, including the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA Cup, the League Cup, and English Super Cup competitions.

Chelsea – Manchester City Prediction

Of course, just like us, the bookmakers with German licenses clearly see the Chelsea vs. Manchester City betting odds favoring the Citizens. Manchester City has lost only two of their last 23 competitive matches—both against Real Madrid—and has won 17 of them. In their last nine matches, they’ve recorded just one draw and eight wins. Additionally, the Sky Blues are unbeaten in their last 13 competitive matches against the Blues and most recently defeated the Londoners 3-0 in the league.

Chelsea, on the other hand, is in a severe slump and has won only three of its last twelve competitive matches—all in the FA Cup. Of the remaining nine matches, they lost eight; their only draw came against Liverpool FC in their last league game. Adding to this is their weakness in attack, as in English cup competitions, the Blues have scored just a single goal in the regular 90 minutes across six matches against City since 2018.
