Will the Red Devils secure third place?

Manchester United and Nottingham Forest face off in the Premier League early Sunday afternoon. In the standings, the third-place team hosts the 16th-place team. The Red Devils have already secured a Champions League spot – with just one more point, they would also finish the season in third place. Nottingham, on the other hand, has secured its place in the league and currently sits in 18th place, seven points ahead of West Ham.

The hosts have been very prolific in front of their home crowd. In their last eight home games, they’ve scored at least two goals seven times. In our Manchester United vs. Nottingham Forest prediction, we’re therefore again betting on United to score at least two goals.

Manchester United has been waiting four Premier League games for a win against Nottingham Forest. After previously winning eight in a row, the Red Devils have managed only one draw and three losses against Forest. Nevertheless, the home record on the final matchday clearly favors United: they have lost only one of their last 18 home games in a Premier League season. Most recently, the team played to a scoreless draw against Sunderland, ending a streak of 23 league games in which they had scored.

Offensively, the team remains dangerous—only Manchester City and Arsenal have scored the opening goal more often than United this season. In addition, Bruno Fernandes continues to shine as the creative force, having already created 124 chances—the fourth-highest total since records began in 2003/04. The new signings, in particular, are driving the offense: Benjamin Sesko leads the team’s scoring chart with 11 goals and has found the net in five of the last seven home games. In our Manchester United vs. Nottingham Forest prediction, he’s set to add another.

Nottingham Forest, on the other hand, travels to Manchester with plenty of confidence. The team is unbeaten in eight Premier League games and already won the clash at Old Trafford last season 3-2. In addition, Forest has won the last two away games of each season—the club last achieved a better streak in the early 1980s under Brian Clough.

Morgan Gibbs-White has been particularly dangerous against Manchester United: The attacking midfielder has been directly involved in five goals in his last five league matches against the Red Devils and also scored in the last away game at Old Trafford. Also notable is their stability after taking the lead: Forest, alongside Manchester United and Sunderland, are among the few teams in the league that remain unbeaten this season after taking the lead.

Manchester United – Nottingham Head-to-Head Record

Another 20 matches ended in draws. Manchester United also holds a clear lead in goal difference at 165:116.
