Who will win the quarterfinal showdown?

Germany on the brink, Austria on the verge of the summit. That’s the outlook for our Germany vs. Austria prediction, in which the Alpine nations could secure their quarterfinal qualification early.

That would mean Germany is finally out, and likely the end of the road for Head Coach Harold Kreis. The pressure is clearly on the shoulders of the DEB team, which has played a very weak World Championship so far and still has a dismal 0% power-play rate (as of before the Hungary match).

Team Austria, however, has had a significantly easier schedule so far and was thus able to build up confidence right away. Whether this has now been damaged by their 0-9 loss to Switzerland will be seen against the German team.

We expect a hard-fought game, so our prediction for Austria vs. Germany is a match that remains evenly balanced for a long time but should ultimately go to the DEB team. For Austria, however, it would even be enough if this only happens after overtime or a shootout.

The handicap set by the bookmakers, ranging from -1.5 to -2.0, falls precisely into a range that is no longer feasible, as this exact difference in performance was evident in the warm-up games as well. Therefore, we prefer goal bets on Austria (Over 1.5) or on total points (Over 5.5), as these were exceeded in both warm-up matches leading up to the World Cup.

Austria – Germany Head-to-Head Record

Of the last five matches since 2025, Germany has won four, and they are once again considered the favorites this Saturday. For Austria, however, the extra day of rest and the greater confidence following their strong start to the tournament are factors in their favor.

Incidentally, the last match that wasn’t a friendly or warm-up game was won by the Austrians 5-2 at the European Cup of Nations. Thus, for Austria vs. Germany, the odds on Austria +2.0 are slightly easier to play than the negative handicap for Germany.

In general, for Team Austria vs. Germany, the betting odds on Germany should be avoided this year, as they have not yet proven that they can even come close to realizing their potential.

Austria – Germany Tip

Can Germany flip the switch against Austria and finally put on a convincing performance, or is this simply not their World Cup? Even a draw after regulation time would mean they could no longer overtake Team Austria and would be out.

The pressure is therefore on Coach Harold Kreis’s men, which is why a bet on Austria scoring over 1.5 goals is our preferred option for Austria vs. Germany. Austria has scored at least two goals in both of their warm-up matches and in three of their four World Cup games so far.

As for goal predictions on individual players, we also have a preferred option: betting on Frederik Tiffels to score. Despite his long season, the “Polar Bear” still looks fresh and has consistently been one of Germany’s most dangerous goal-scorers so far.
