Will Canada get its Olympic revenge?
Olympic revenge or another embarrassment for Team Canada? That’s the question we’re asking in our Canada vs. USA tip for the first quarterfinal at the 2026 Ice Hockey World Championship in Switzerland. The conditions for a rematch are certainly favorable, as Canada won Group B, while the USA finished only fourth in Group A.
Of course, this is also because Team USA arrived without its biggest stars, with the exception of Matthew Tkachuk and perhaps Justin Faulk. Canada, on the other hand, has numerous big names on board, including Evan Bouchard, Macklin Celebrini, Sidney Crosby, and John Tavares—even former MVPs.
That’s why the Maple Leafs are considered the heavy favorites with a -1.5 to -2 goal spread. In our view, however, they’re still worth betting on, as Team USA has consistently lost by at least two goals against strong teams like Finland, Switzerland, or Latvia.
So for Canada vs. USA, our prediction is a win for the motherland of hockey, with the Canadians highly motivated to humiliate the USA. This could also cause the total goal count to skyrocket.
Combined bets on a Canada win and over goals are also an option, as we believe the Canadians are capable of scoring at least four goals themselves.
Canada – USA Head-to-Head Record
Three of the last five and six of the last ten matchups went to Team USA. How meaningful is that? Not very, since every nation has handled its stars differently at every World Championship. At this year’s World Championship, for example, the Canadians have significantly more stars on their roster.
Superstars don’t always win games, but Team USA’s roster includes numerous very inexperienced youngsters who aren’t quite there yet in their development. The games against Finland (2-6) and Latvia (2-4) demonstrated this.
Since the Canadians have shown little mercy so far and remain undefeated, they should also defeat the U.S. without much trouble. Thus, for Canada vs. USA, the betting odds on the Maple Leafs are worth playing in any combination.
Canada – USA Tip
The Canadians rank 3rd in shooting efficiency, while the US team is in 14th place. In penalty killing, Canada ranks 2nd (88.89% success rate), and the US ranks 7th with 78.57%. All of this also speaks in favor of Team Canada, which only trails the US slightly in power play.
Nevertheless, we see little reason why the Canadians shouldn’t live up to their role as favorites, so for Canada vs. USA, a bet on Canada -1.5 is our preferred betting option. Additionally, the odds on Macklin Celebrini scoring a goal in Canada vs. USA are interesting.
