Will the Swiss continue their May fairy tale?

Will the Swiss finally achieve their long-awaited World Championship triumph on home ice? After already winning five silver medals, it’s finally their turn, but in our Switzerland vs. Sweden tip, a true hockey powerhouse stands in their way.

The Swiss could have had a much easier draw in the quarterfinals, but so far they’ve had few problems against the major nations in the tournament (3-1 against the USA, 4-2 against Finland). Nevertheless, they shouldn’t underestimate the Scandinavians.

It wouldn’t be the first time that a home-team fairy tale ends in the quarterfinals due to mounting pressure. Still, we believe the Swiss can handle this pressure and dominate once again with their strong offense.

Just how strong is Switzerland’s status as favorites? Even the bookmakers aren’t entirely in agreement. We would definitely avoid handicap bets of more than -1.5, which brings combination bets into play as betting options—in this case, best on Switzerland + Over 4.5 total goals.

Switzerland – Sweden Head-to-Head Record

Let’s get to the point that’s likely causing the Swiss the most concern: the head-to-head record. All five of their last matches went to Sweden. The Swiss’s advantage now, however, is clearly their home-field advantage.

It’s no coincidence that they are the only team still undefeated, whereas the Swedes have already suffered three losses, including a surprising defeat against Norway (2-3)

We see Switzerland’s home advantage and current form as strong enough to offset this head-to-head record, which still makes the betting odds on Switzerland for the Switzerland vs. Sweden match worth considering.

Switzerland – Sweden Tip

How much will the pressure to reach the final at home now hold the Swiss back, or how much will the atmosphere spur them on? This will be the main question in this matchup, which the Swiss should actually win easily based on form.

Since it’s unlikely to be quite that easy, however, our preferred bet for Switzerland vs. Sweden is Switzerland + Over 4.5 goals. Because that also factors in the possibility that it could be a close game and might even go into overtime.

As an alternative bet, goal bets are also interesting here. With Malgin, Hischier, Meier, and Andrighetto, the Swiss have several top scorers in their lineup. We’re sticking with a recommendation for a goal bet on Hischier, which already paid off against Finland.
