Will Cobolli dominate against Arnaldi?

After the surprising exit of top favorite Jannik Sinner, Italian tennis fans had little hope left for a Tricolor victory in Paris, but now at least one of the country’s pros will advance to the final. We’re sending a tip across the net for the all-Italian semifinal showdown between Matteo Arnaldi and Flavio Cobolli!

The latter player is having an astonishingly strong tournament on the Seine. In his five matches so far, he has dropped only two sets. As a result, his path to the semifinals has cost him less energy compared to his opponent, who has already lost half a dozen sets and thus spent significantly more time on the court overall.

Moreover, Cobolli has gained a significant boost in confidence from his recent victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime. After all, it was a win against a player ranked in the world’s top ten! With that in mind, for the match between Matteo Arnaldi and Flavio Cobolli, we predict a victory for the professional from Florence by a margin of at least two sets.

That said, we do believe Arnaldi is capable of winning at least one set. In his first Grand Slam semifinal of his career, he’ll give it his all once again, and in his five previous matches against Cobolli, he’s always managed to win one or more sets.

Matteo Arnaldi – Flavio Cobolli Head-to-Head Record

Flavio Cobolli and his compatriot last faced each other at the French Open as well. The match took place at the end of May last year, and Cobolli secured a 3-1 victory. However, Arnaldi still holds the edge in their overall head-to-head record at 3-2.

For the upcoming match between Matteo Arnaldi and Flavio Cobolli, the odds nevertheless point toward a victory for the latter.

Matteo Arnaldi – Flavio Cobolli Prediction

Matteo Berrettini put up a good fight against his namesake in the previous round, but only in the first set. In the second set, the 30-year-old was forced to retire due to injury.

Arnaldi saved some energy as a result, but his path to the semifinals was particularly grueling, featuring two five-set matches, which is why we see him at a physical disadvantage compared to Cobolli. His upcoming opponent, on the other hand, has more or less breezed through the tournament, losing only two sets.

Furthermore, we generally consider him the stronger player: He is ranked about 100 places higher in the world rankings, and unlike Arnaldi, Cobolli already has three tournament victories on the ATP Tour.

His opponent can only counter this with five tournament wins at the Challenger level. Given this situation, we’re betting on the player from Tuscany to win by two sets in the match between Matteo Arnaldi and Flavio Cobolli.
