First Grand Slam title for Sascha?

The 2026 French Open final is here, and we have a prediction for the Alexander Zverev vs. Flavio Cobolli match on Sunday afternoon! The Hamburg native is in his fourth Grand Slam final and is hoping to finally secure his first title.

He also reached the final in Paris back in 2023 and, after taking a 2-1 lead in sets, seemed to be on the verge of achieving his dream, but then Carlos Alcaraz fought back with two decisive set wins. This year, the Spaniard was absent due to injury, and with Jannik Sinner, the other top favorite, bowing out early from the field.

This made the starting position very favorable for the German from the outset, and he’s in great form anyway. The 2021 Olympic champion has dropped only two sets in six matches on his way to the final at the ongoing tournament in the French capital. Now, however, another tough opponent awaits him in the form of the professional from Tuscany.

Although this is the Italian’s first Grand Slam final, he is in top form. This year, Cobolli has already won the tournament in Acapulco and reached the final in Munich. In the process, he even defeated Zverev 2-0!

Furthermore, Cobolli is entering the 2026 French Open final particularly well-rested, as he didn’t even have to play in the semifinals due to his opponent Matteo Arnaldi’s viral illness. Against this backdrop, we’re predicting more than 3.5 sets in the match between Alexander Zverev and Flavio Cobolli on Court Philippe-Chatrier.

Furthermore, we expect at least one set to be decided in a tiebreak. This is a pattern that has already been observed in half of the four previous meetings between the two players.

Alexander Zverev – Flavio Cobolli – Head-to-Head Record

The two-time ATP Finals champion and Cobolli have already faced each other twice this year. As mentioned earlier, the Italian prevailed 2-0 at the clay-court tournament in Munich in mid-April.

Just about two weeks later, however, Zverev successfully took his revenge with a 2-0 win at the Madrid Masters. Thanks to that victory, the Hamburg native now holds a record of three wins and one loss in this matchup.

The two pros also faced off at the French Open last year. Back then, the German won 3-0 in straight sets against the 24-year-old in the third round.

For the upcoming rematch between Alexander Zverev and Flavio Cobolli, the odds now point toward another victory for the Hamburg native.

Flavio Cobolli – Alexander Zverev Prediction

Alexander Zverev is having a very successful clay-court season: Only four of his 23 matches on the surface this year have ended in defeat for him. However, all of those losses came against players from Italy!

His losing streak against pros from that country goes back even further. Zverev has suffered all six of his most recent losses against players from the land of “Dolce Vita.” However, four of those were at the hands of world No. 1 Jannik Sinner alone.

On the other hand, his upcoming opponent also appears on this list, and the loss in Munich took place on clay. The surface is also generally the first choice for the player from Florence: Cobolli has recorded four of his five tournament victories on the ATP and Challenger Tours on clay.

On top of that, he is now entering the match somewhat fresher than the Hamburg native, as the pro—who is coached by his father—won his semifinal by default against his ill compatriot Matteo Arnaldi. Given this situation, it doesn’t look like it will be a walk in the park for the German, and for the 2026 French Open final between Alexander Zverev and Flavio Cobolli, we’re betting on the odds for more than 3.5 sets.
