Will Sascha defeat his latest nemesis?
Alexander Zverev has reached the final in Halle twice before, but was unable to claim the title either in his 1-2 loss to Florian Mayer or his 0-2 loss to Roger Federer. However, if the bet on the newly crowned French Open champion to win in the Alexander Zverev vs. Taylor Fritz match pays off, Sascha would get a third chance to win the tennis tournament in East Westphalia. Theoretically, the final could even feature an all-German matchup. After all, in the other semifinal following this match, Daniel Altmaier will face Frances Tiafoe.
It’s far more likely, however, that at least one American will reach the final. Not only is Daniel Altmaier the clear underdog, but in the Alexander Zverev vs. Taylor Fritz match, the prediction that Sascha will lose for the first time after winning ten straight singles matches isn’t entirely far-fetched. After all, he has lost all of his last six matches against Taylor Fritz.
And yet: The American’s 2026 season hasn’t been particularly impressive; just last week, at the start of the grass-court season, he lost to Ben Shelton in the final of the Stuttgart Open. Against this backdrop, we now believe the German No. 1 is capable of turning the tide in his head-to-head record against Taylor Fritz and defeating the world No. 9 for the first time in a while.
However, Taylor Fritz is considered a consummate grass-court specialist. The 28-year-old has won five of his ATP titles to date on grass, where he can superbly combine his fast and precise serve with a powerful baseline game. However, Sascha also serves exceptionally well, so with the right level of serving dominance, this could very well turn into a match in which neither player drops many service games. If the match goes the full distance of three sets—for which Bet-at-home offers odds of 2.10—there could also be several sets decided in tiebreaks.
Alexander Zverev – Taylor Fritz Head-to-Head Record
Head-to-Head: 5:9
The two players have already faced each other 14 times, and while Alexander Zverev won five of their first eight matches, the German now trails 5:9 in their head-to-head record. Taylor Fritz has won all six of their most recent matches, including a 2-0 victory over Sascha in the 2025 Stuttgart Open final on grass (6-3, 7-6).
Alexander Zverev – Taylor Fritz Prediction
German sports fans are in for a real treat on Saturday. First, there will be German representation in both semifinal matches in Halle, and then in the evening, as part of the 2026 World Cup, Germany will face Ivory Coast for an early spot in the knockout stage.
Alexander Zverev, who kicks things off around 3 p.m., has, in our estimation, an excellent chance of reaching the Halle Open final for the third time in his career—though to do so, he’ll finally have to defeat his recent nemesis, against whom he’s suffered six straight losses.
In principle, we can expect a closely contested match that certainly has the potential to go to three sets and include several tiebreaks. Overall, given the momentum from his French Open title—a key indicator for Wimbledon—we’d bet on the German emerging victorious in this semifinal.
