How much trouble will the German face this time?
By the skin of his teeth, Alexander Zverev—who is the top seed at the 2026 US Open due to Jannik Sinner’s absence—avoided a first-round exit. In the end, his marathon match against Lorenzo Sonego lasted nearly five hours and earned the German a dubious record. No other player has played as many five-set matches in the first week of a Grand Slam tournament as Sascha (17). Nevertheless, the odds are in favor of Alexander Zverev defeating Quentin Halys. After all, Sascha already beat the Frenchman 3-1 on his way to this year’s French Open title.
Still, Quentin Halys shouldn’t be taken entirely lightly. The world No. 52 just claimed his first singles title on the ATP Tour in Kitzbühel this past July and is consequently eager to make a deep run at a Grand Slam tournament. In his opening match, he showed no weakness in his 3-1 victory over Facundo Diaz Acosta (ATP No. 82) and scored on his first serve 82 percent of the time. If he can replicate that serving performance against Sascha, the prediction that Alexander Zverev will beat Quentin Halys in straight sets (3-0) is extremely risky. In fact, the German—who is once again headlining the Night Session—could be in for another long evening. We expect him to drop a set against the Frenchman as well.
After all, there’s no value to be found in the straight-up win bets on the German given the very low odds, especially considering how close Zverev already came to losing in his opening match. In their last hard-court matchup in the U.S., in Miami—which Sascha won 2-0—both sets ultimately went to a tiebreak (7-6 and 7-6).
