Two winless and scoreless teams face off!

Both teams definitely imagined a different start to this Nations League season. The Hungary vs. Georgia prediction for Friday night is therefore naturally shaped by the first two matchdays in Group 2 of Division B. Neither Hungary nor Georgia has scored a goal after 180 minutes; in fact, only two goals were scored in the group’s first four matches. So it’s no wonder that the initial trend for this head-to-head matchup in Budapest clearly points toward a low-scoring game.

Hungary lost their opener at home 0–1 to Ukraine and had to settle for a 0–0 draw in Northern Ireland on Monday night. What stands out: In those two matches, the Hungarians managed a total of just five shots on goal, yet still posted a higher combined xG value compared to their upcoming opponent from Georgia.

Despite their high-profile offense featuring Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Georges Mikautadze, and others, the 2024 European Championship participants fell far short of expectations on the offensive end in both the 0–1 loss to Northern Ireland and the 0–0 draw against Ukraine.

Compounding the issue is the fact that the Georgians are playing their first away game since the dismissal of Willy Sagnol—who didn’t “survive” the 0–1 loss to Northern Ireland after five and a half years in charge—and the swift appointment of Ramaz Svanadze as his successor. This affects the Hungary vs. Georgia prediction in that Georgia has managed only three away wins in competitive matches over the past three years.

I therefore see Hungary as the favorites, as I believe their roster is slightly stronger, particularly in terms of depth. In addition, the Magyars have recorded 14 wins, six draws, and only eight losses in their last 28 home games. Only 11 of these 28 matches ended with over 2.5 goals, with an average of just 2.29 goals per home game.

Hungary – Georgia Head-to-Head Record

The head-to-head record is completely even: Hungary and Georgia have faced each other twice so far, with both nations recording one win each. However, those two matches took place a long time ago. In 2001, Hungary won 4–1; a few months later, Georgia prevailed 3–1. Accordingly, the Hungary vs. Georgia betting odds offer little insight based on the head-to-head record, so current form is significantly more important.

Hungary vs. Georgia Prediction

Both teams have fallen well short of expectations with just one point each from the first two matchdays and are still waiting to score their first goal. Only two goals were scored in the first four group matches, and seven of Hungary’s last ten matches have produced a maximum of three goals. Georgia, too, has seen fewer than 2.5 goals in five consecutive matches, which is why the current situation clearly points to a close, low-scoring match. Given the home-field advantage and what I consider to be slightly better squad depth, I see Hungary with a slight edge.

This combination covers both a narrow Hungarian home win and a draw, while also aligning with the pronounced “under” trend for both teams. Those willing to take a bit more risk can target a straight Hungarian home win or, with a bit of courage, bet that more goals will be scored in the second half than in the first 45 minutes.
