Will the Three Lions Live Up to Expectations?

The Croatia vs. England prediction is dominated by the ongoing controversy surrounding Thomas Tuchel’s tenure. Although the German coach led the Three Lions to a third-place finish at the 2026 World Cup—their best World Cup showing in 60 years—criticism of him remains persistent. Even their first two Nations League matches did little to change that: A 2-3 loss in the opener against world champions Spain was followed by a 2-0 away win in the Czech Republic—a victory that, however, was far from impressive given an early red card for the hosts.

To make matters worse, Tuchel apparently doesn’t enjoy unanimous support even within the squad. Recent comments by Anthony Gordon, who indirectly criticized the coach for not taking Trent Alexander-Arnold to the World Cup, have provided additional fuel for discussion.

On the field, however, the English team is performing at a high level under Tuchel: since he took over, they’ve recorded 18 wins, two draws, and just four losses. A total of 55 goals scored translates to an average of 2.29 goals per international match—a remarkable figure, especially since Tuchel wasn’t necessarily known for unconditional attacking soccer in the past.

Given the immense quality of England’s offense, the German coach is now taking more risks and deliberately seeking to create more “chaos” on the field. The 2-3 loss to Spain and the spectacular 6-4 victory over France in the World Cup third-place match underscore this approach and provide strong arguments for a Croatia vs. England prediction of a high-scoring match in Rijeka.

The statistics also point to at least three goals. In seven of England’s last eleven international matches, a bet on over 2.5 goals would have paid off; for Croatia, this was the case in eleven of their last 13 matches.

Slaven Bilic’s team kicked off the Nations League with a 2-1 away win in the Czech Republic but were subsequently soundly defeated 1-4 in Spain. It’s also worth noting that the Vatreni have failed to score in only four international matches over the past three years.

Croatia – England Head-to-Head Record

A look at the head-to-head record between Croatia and England provides strong arguments for a high-scoring match: In the six matchups since 2004, there have been an average of 3.17 goals per game, with both teams scoring or more than 2.5 goals being scored in four of those matches. In particular, their most recent clash at the 2026 World Cup ended in a 4-2 victory for England and underscored the offensive potential of both teams. Given these head-to-head patterns, the Croatia vs. England betting odds on both teams to score also make sense for your betting slip.

Croatia – England Prediction

Despite Croatia’s home-field advantage, England enters the match as the favorite and is looking to make a statement after a mixed start to the Nations League. While the Three Lions impressed offensively against Spain, they also revealed defensive weaknesses in their 2–3 loss. Croatia also looked vulnerable against Spain and needs to bounce back after a 1–4 defeat to the world champions.

In seven of the ten previous matchups, at least three goals were scored, and in just as many games, both teams found the net. Add to that the most recent performances in the Nations League, where England lost 2–3 to Spain and Croatia fell 1–4 to Spain. Eleven of Croatia’s last 13 international matches have featured at least three goals. My pick is therefore the Croatia vs. England bet on Over 2.5 goals at odds of 1.75, on which I’m betting five units. Alternatively, it makes sense to bet on “Both Teams to Score” or, as a high-risk value bet, on a draw at odds of 3.80.
