Will the Canaries pull off another upset in Naples?
Despite a mixed start to the season so far—with just seven points from five Serie A matches—Napoli enters the clash with Frosinone as the favorite. What’s interesting for my Napoli vs. Frosinone pick is that the visitors currently sit in an excellent sixth place, have conceded only four goals in five league games, and have seen fewer than 3.5 goals in 80% of their matches
Napoli itself has managed only seven goals in five league games so far and thus has not yet developed the offensive firepower one would expect from a Champions League team with high ambitions. A home win in the Southern Derby—with only 140 kilometers separating the two cities—is definitely not a sure thing.
The Napoli vs. Frosinone prediction is further complicated by the hosts’ strained roster situation. Numerous starters—and even key players—are currently out with injuries or at least carrying niggles.
Frosinone, meanwhile, arrives with a strong record of three wins, one draw, and just one loss in their first five games, having conceded only one goal on the road so far. To me, that suggests we won’t see a wild goal fest and, at the same time, that Frosinone isn’t without a chance at the Maradona Stadium. I wouldn’t even rule out a draw, which is why—based on the Napoli vs. Frosinone betting odds—a bet on the draw definitely offers value.
In the Napoli vs. Frosinone matchup, the odds for a classic home win are, in my view, set far too low and therefore aren’t the most interesting option for me. I prefer the 1X & Under 3.5 Goals combination at odds of 1.90 at Interwetten, because Napoli—despite their individual quality—first needs to find stability, and Frosinone has been extremely compact defensively so far.
Various statistics support this approach. For example, four out of five of Frosinone’s Serie A matches have ended with a maximum of three goals. Such a bet would also have paid off in five of the Partenopei’s six competitive matches so far. In Napoli’s three home games alone, across all competitions, only five goals have been scored in total.
Naples – Frosinone Head-to-Head Record
The head-to-head record clearly favors Napoli. In their ten previous meetings, SSC has won seven times, while Frosinone has managed just one victory. At the same time, these matchups have often been high-scoring. In eight of the ten encounters, at least three goals were scored, averaging 3.7 goals per game.
For Saturday night, however—given their performances so far—I expect a low-scoring match. A maximum of two goals after 90 minutes offers attractive odds of 2.55. Incidentally, the most recent matchup in April 2024 ended in a 2-2 draw, so Frosinone has certainly already proven it can cause problems for Napoli.
Naples vs. Frosinone Prediction
Napoli is facing a true derby but enters the match under significantly more pressure. After five matchdays, the Partenopei have only seven points to their name and are thus clearly falling short of their own expectations, while Frosinone, as a promoted team, has made an excellent start to the season, sitting in sixth place with ten points.
Frosinone’s only loss so far came in a 0-1 defeat to Juventus—otherwise, the team has remained unbeaten and has been particularly impressive with its defensive stability.
That’s exactly why I like the combination of 1X and Under 3.5 goals the best: With odds of 1.90 at Interwetten, I’m planning to bet four units on this. Frosinone has conceded only four goals in five league games so far, while Napoli, with six goals against, isn’t a team that regularly gets caught up in open, high-scoring matches either. Even a draw is interesting to me—the odds for an X seem quite high given the visitors’ performance so far.
