Will the Packers stay hot in Detroit, too?

A strong home team vs. a strong road team—that’s the matchup in our Lions vs. Packers pick, and we’re definitely calling this a top-tier game. After all, this isn’t just about winning the division—it’s also about a decades-long rivalry between the two northern cities.

Most recently, the Packers have had the upper hand here, having won both matchups in 2025. But the Lions are always dangerous on offense and, with 32.8 points per game, score the second-most points of any team. So we’re likely to see the game go over the total on Sunday night. We don’t see either team making it to the Super Bowl, mainly because of their defenses. The Lions rank among the bottom three in that category—one reason why we actually see Green Bay as slight favorites on Sunday.

So our prediction for Lions vs. Packers is a very close game that will ultimately be won by the better defense—and, to everyone’s surprise, that’s the Packers’ (20.8 vs. 29.6 points allowed per game).

The Lions are the bookmakers’ favorites, which gives us plenty of betting options on the Packers. Both win bets, handicap bets, and total points bets are available given the strong odds for the Lions vs. Packers. Over bets are also in play, though the bookmakers have set the line quite high at 53.5.

Detroit Lions – Green Bay Packers Head-to-Head Record

The last two matchups went quite decisively to Green Bay (by 14 and 7 points). We don’t see that margin happening on Sunday, as we expect a game that won’t be decided until the final drive.

While that leaves everything up in the air, we should still bet on Green Bay at the higher odds for the Lions vs. Packers game. If that’s too risky for you, you can also target Over 23.5 points for the Packers. The Lions’ defense has conceded at least that many points in four of their five games so far, with an average of 29.6.

Detroit Lions – Green Bay Packers Pick

We’ve already discussed the Lions’ status as favorites, which stems from their offense (32.8 points) and the bye week they’re just coming off of. However, we see the Packers’ momentum as at least just as important. The fact that Josh Jacobs is now returning and will take the Packers’ previously poor running game to the next level also factors into our analysis.

Therefore, for Lions vs. Packers, a bet on Green Bay is our preferred betting option. If a team with such a weak running game (No. 32, and thus last in the NFL) already has a 4-2 record, just imagine what’s possible with Josh Jacobs? Accordingly, TD picks on Jacobs are also an option, though we actually prefer a TD pick on Christian Watson slightly more. After all, he’s already scored six touchdowns in six games.
