Will the two superstars dominate?

Two elite players in this European Basketball Championship are shaking up the Greece vs. Turkey tip and delighting the audience in Riga. The Greek team has the second-best scorer of the tournament in Giannis Antetokounmpo (averaging 29.6 points).

Coach Vasileios Spanoulis is squeezing every drop of energy out of the Greek Freak and letting his superstar shoulder the entire offensive load. The Greeks have scored 86.1 points per game in this tournament, either scored or initiated by Giannis Antetokounmpo himself. Spanoulis’ protégés are not deviating from this motto in the Greece vs. Turkey prediction either.

The Turkish team has marched through this EuroBasket tournament undefeated and with a convincing offense (7-0). Led by Alperen Sengün, the “12 Dev Adam” (English: 12 Giant Men) scored more than 90 points per game (90.7 points per game).

The 23-year-old is the linchpin of the offense, but compared to Giannis Antetokounmpo, he stands out less as an outstanding scorer than as an all-around player.

2001 was the last time the Turkish basketball team reached the EuroBasket semifinals. This time, they could even go all the way – provided that coach Ergin Ataman’s offense continues to perform at a high level. According to the Greece vs. Turkey betting odds, there could be a lot of points scored on both sides.

The Greeks last played in the semifinals in 2009. Most recently, Greece has failed to advance past the quarterfinals in three consecutive European Basketball Championships. Whether the Greek team can win its third title depends solely on Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Greece – Turkey Head-to-head record / H2H record

These two national basketball teams have not faced each other since 2022. At that time, Greece won a test match at home, in which both teams scored at least 80 points, by nine points (89:80). The last competitive game took place in 2022 as part of the World Cup qualifiers and ended with a 76:67 victory for the Greeks. Since 2015, the Greeks have won nine consecutive matches against the Turkish team.

This streak is definitely in jeopardy in the semifinals of Euro Basket 2025. Unlike Greece (6-1), Turkey (7-0) has not lost a single game and has scored at least 90 points in five of seven appearances. In addition, Alperen Sengün became the youngest player in EuroBasket history to achieve a triple-double in the quarterfinal against Poland. Only four other players in the history of the tournament have achieved this feat.

Greece – Turkey Tip

Without question, the headlines for this matchup are dominated by the duel between Giannis Antetokounmpo and Alperen Sengün. The two NBA pros are among the most prominent and best players in this European Championship. Giannis dominates with his athleticism and as an unstoppable powerhouse, while Sengün sets the pace for Turkey’s offensive efforts.

The different approaches can be deduced from the tournament statistics. The ball moves more fluidly through the various hands in the Turkish offense (22.1 assists). Shooters are left open and take advantage of their chances with clinical precision (44.6 percent three-point shooting percentage).

Greece scored 20 fastbreak points in the quarterfinals against Lithuania and held its own in an arena with 10,000 spectators, most of whom were Lithuanian. Only on the first day of the tournament did the Greek offense led by the Greek Freak score less than 80 points (75-66 vs. Italy).

Since then, Spanoulis’s team has scored 90 or more points in three of six appearances. The Turkish team capitalized on Alperen Sengün’s playmaking abilities and scored 90 or more points in five of seven games.
