Will the Packers roll over the Commanders too?

The Green Bay Packers made a real statement on the very first day of the season. Head coach Matt LaFleur’s team won 27-13 at home against the Detroit Lions and looked in very strong form. The defense in particular impressed against opponents who were considered very strong on paper, having lost only three of 19 matches last season.

After a short week, quarterback Jordan Love and Co. are back in action on Thursday night. Once again, the Cheeseheads will enjoy home advantage at Lambeau Field. That’s one of the reasons why my Packers vs. Commanders tip is for a win for the franchise from the state of Wisconsin.

It is quite possible that the task against the team from the capital will be more complicated than the opening game against Detroit. This is primarily due to the fact that the Commanders, who were only knocked out of the playoffs in the NFC Championship game last season, are also arriving with plenty of confidence. Washington won convincingly against the overwhelmed Giants last Sunday, making a particularly good impression on offense. Led by franchise playmaker Jayden Daniels, coach Dan Quinn’s men racked up almost 500 yards.

Unlike in 2024, when Daniels primarily made the difference through the air or by running himself, the Commanders were able to rely on a decent rushing game this time around. Rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt alone racked up over 80 rushing yards on 19 carries. Nevertheless, when looking at the Packers vs. Commanders prediction, it must of course be taken into account that Green Bay’s D-line will make life much more difficult for Washington’s ball carriers.

In my opinion, the decisive factor is the Packers’ improved defense, which signed Micah Parson, the long-time defensive anchor of the Dallas Cowboys, shortly before the start of the season and can now also put good pressure on the opposing quarterback in the pass rush.

Although Daniels is significantly more mobile than Jared Goff of the Lions, I am convinced that the GB defense, combined with home-field advantage in the Thursday Night Game, will make the difference.

Green Bay Packers – Washington Commanders Head-to-head comparison / H2H record

The head-to-head record does not have a decisive influence on the Packers vs. Commanders betting odds. Firstly, because there have been two wins for both teams in the last four head-to-head matches since 2017. Secondly, because the last meeting took place three years ago. At that time, Aaron Rodgers was still throwing passes for Green Bay, while Taylor Heinicke was on the field as quarterback for Washington. On Thursday night, however, there will be an interesting duel between playmakers Love and Daniels, and thus also a feud between two quarterbacks from the new generation.

Green Bay Packers – Washington Commanders Tip

The Green Bay Packers and the Washington Commanders both started the new NFL season with victories last week. While Jordan Love and Co. put in a very strong performance at home against Detroit, Washington also gave a flawless performance against the New York Giants. The head-to-head matchup now promises plenty of excitement and high-class football. However, because the teams are evenly matched, I could well imagine that betting on under points is a good option. Especially given that the points line is set quite high anyway.

Furthermore, I see the home team as having a slight advantage. After all, Washington has lost four of its last six away games. In addition, Green Bay is a much stronger opponent than the Giants were at the start of the season. It remains to be seen whether the running game will work as well against the Wisconsin D-line as it did last weekend. As a result, I recommend betting on a Packers victory. This is rewarded with a top odds of 1.55 at Betano.
