AFC top-of-the-table clash with playoff character!
Even if it doesn’t look like a top-of-the-table clash based purely on the teams’ 1-2 records, the franchises from Kansas and Baltimore are undoubtedly among the best teams in the NFL.
So it is imperative for both teams to avoid a false start. This is precisely what makes the circumstances surrounding this game even more exciting. Read on to find out why we are predicting a win for the visitors in the Chiefs vs. Ravens matchup.
The team led by superstars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce managed to avoid a disastrous start with three losses, but the doubts have certainly not disappeared. Against the Giants, 22 points were enough for victory, but the offense’s performance was once again sluggish and almost uninspired at times. This is of course due in no small part to the absence of wide receivers Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice. According to head coach Andy Reid, it does not look like Worthy will return against Baltimore. Rice was suspended for six games before the start of the season for a “violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy.”
Hollywood Brown, Tyquan Thornton, and, of course, Kelce will therefore have to carry the bulk of the passing game on Sunday. In addition, the running game is virtually non-existent. That’s why we have certain doubts as to whether the hosts can keep up with the visitors’ high-scoring offense.
High-scoring offense? High-scoring offense! Quarterback Lamar Jackson’s unit scored 111 points in the first three games, which is clearly the best in the entire league. In a direct comparison, it should be mentioned that the Chiefs are only averaging 20 points. If Baltimore heads back toward 30 points, the visitors should be able to win the game at Arrowhead Stadium.
Despite two losses to the Bills (40-41) and the Lions (30-38), the Ravens proved that they are very versatile on offense. When defenses are able to stop the running game, as Cleveland did, for example, Jackson often distributes the ball flawlessly to his receivers.
Chiefs – Ravens Head-to-head comparison / H2H record
For years, the two franchises have been among the crème de la crème of the NFL. Both have been regulars in the playoffs recently. Of course, they are expected to be there again this year. However, for the loser of Sunday’s game, the road to the postseason will be even more difficult due to their 1-3 record.
The statistics from previous matchups favor Andy Reid’s team, but after their often sluggish offensive performances so far, we can’t in good conscience bet on the hosts. In addition, although the Ravens have won only five of the 14 previous duels, they have always defeated the Chiefs when they scored at least 30 points.
Since we compared both offenses at the beginning, let’s do the same with the defenses. Here, the picture is quite different. While the KC defense allowed only 18.7 points on average, Baltimore conceded an average of 32 points per game.
Overall, however, we are optimistic that head coach John Harbaugh’s team can also impress against the solid Kansas defense. This impression stems primarily from the fact that Baltimore has always had an answer on offense so far. It would be a surprise if this were not the case on Sunday. That’s why we’re leaning towards betting on the visitors scoring at least 27 points in the game between the Chiefs and Ravens.
Chiefs – Ravens Tip
With odds of up to 2.00, we find great value in this option. However, we are reducing our stake slightly and betting only three units in total.
When the Chiefs host the Ravens, the betting odds suggest that the bookies see the visitors as favorites. We agree with this and are also betting that Baltimore will win by at least three points at Arrowhead Stadium. We have come to this conclusion because we believe the visitors’ offense is the best group of players on the field.
Last but not least, we are betting on a touchdown by Zay Flowers. The wide receiver is currently the most important playmaker for Jackson in the passing game. However, he has only scored one receiving touchdown so far. We are absolutely convinced that he will follow up with number two on Sunday evening.
