Will the Commanders surprise on the West Coast?
We turn our attention to the NFL and look to California. In the “City of Angels,” at SoFi Stadium, there will be an interesting duel between Los Angeles and Washington in the late slot of the fifth matchday. Both franchises suffered defeats last week, but that doesn’t make the encounter any less exciting.
While the hosts started 3-1, the visitors have a 2-2 win-loss record. The odds offered for a Chargers vs. Commanders bet at Interwetten show that the markets see the hosts as relatively clear favorites. We come to a different conclusion.
Jim Harbaugh’s team suffered a surprise defeat last week against the Giants, who had been winless until then. For the first time, the offensive unit led by quarterback Justin Herbert failed to put 20 points on the scoreboard, mainly due to the strong performance of the Big Apple team’s defense. For the upcoming match, we expect the offense to be more productive again, even though at least one important piece of the offensive line could still be missing.
On the defensive side, Khalil Mack is a very prominent loss. He was already missing last week, which is one of the reasons LA never got a handle on the Giants’ mobile quarterback. Now, a similar scenario is looming in the Chargers vs. Commanders prediction.
That’s because there is at least some good news coming out of the Washington infirmary. Playmaker Jayden Daniels has been given the green light by doctors, so he will likely be able to lead his team onto the field in California. The 24-year-old missed the last two games due to a strained left knee. With backup quarterback Marcus Mariota, Washington beat the Raiders but lost to the Falcons. It’s difficult to choose suitable odds between the Chargers and Commanders because it’s completely unclear what the visitors’ offense will look like.
Los Angeles Chargers – Washington Commanders Head-to-head comparison / H2H record
Daniels – then in his rookie season – and his offense were arguably the surprise of last season. This year, however, he has only played two games so far, and in both matchups, the offense did not seem to be at the same level as last year. However, in those games, he was up against above-average defenses in the Giants and Packers.
With Terry McLaurin, the key player in the passing game, returning from injury, it is entirely realistic that Daniels will carry this unit to more than 20 points. Not to mention that the Washington quarterback run game is always a threat. The best bookmakers are already offering solid betting odds for at least 23 points for the visitors in the matchup between the Chargers and Commanders.
With the LA defense still struggling with injuries, we don’t think it’s out of the question that WSH will be able to move the ball consistently. However, we predict the same for the opposing offense. Even though Herbert has been under pressure recently, he has regularly created plays for this unit. He is undoubtedly one of the top five playmakers in the entire league.
Despite the lack of outstanding playmakers, the 27-year-old led the team to victories against the Chiefs, Raiders, and Broncos, all of whom have good to very good defenses. A bright spot for the offense recently was the running game around rookie Omarion Hampton, who had his first 100-rushing-yard game in the NFL against New York.
The last meeting was more than four years ago, so no predictions can be made for the upcoming game based on that. Of the six duels that have taken place since 2001, the Chargers have won five and lost only one matchup in overtime. Only in that game would the point line, which is set at over/under 47.5 points for the upcoming game, have been broken.
Los Angeles Chargers – Washington Commanders Tip
Even though we expect an offensive game, 48 points seems a little too high to us. That’s why we’re staying away from betting on whether the line will be reached in the Chargers vs. Commanders match. Instead, we’re betting on the visitors and their recovered quarterback. As already teased, we find good value in at least 23 points for Washington. We are selecting five units for this main recommendation.
The game between LA and Washington will be broadcast live exclusively on DAZN with the NFL Gamepass. However, there will of course be plenty of live football again on Sunday.
For the game in California, we are putting our trust primarily in the two teams’ offenses. If you want to place a player bet, you could use the Bet365 offer code. With this well-known bookmaker, you can safely bet on at least two passing touchdowns from Herbert or a successful end zone visit from Daniels, for example.
