Will the DEB stars strike back against the USA?
Get up, straighten your crown, and let’s go again for the DEB team. After their weak performance against Switzerland, they now have the chance to redeem themselves in our USA vs. Germany tip. However, it won’t be easy.
Despite their good experiences at the 2023 World Championship, the USA is not necessarily their favorite opponent. Four of the last five matches were lost from a German perspective, and this year the Americans are once again fielding numerous NHL players.
It was all the more surprising that they also went down 3-0 against Switzerland, but this probably just confirms the strong form of the Swiss. Defensively, the US boys are likely to be much more vulnerable than Switzerland, which could lead to numerous scoring chances.
So, our prediction for USA vs. Germany is a high-scoring game that should ultimately go to the USA again. If Coach Harold Kreis’s men can at least make it to overtime, that would already be a success in terms of the standings.
USA – Statistics & current form
Team USA is once again a surprise package. Once again, they have come to the World Championship with numerous NHL stars and once again they showed far too little of their class against Switzerland. They also narrowly avoided embarrassment against Norway.
So how should they be assessed against the DEB team? It’s difficult to say, because anything is possible here, from a convincing victory to a surprise defeat. However, they do have one big advantage: they’ve had two days off since their last game.
Team USA should be fresh
The slightly longer break should help them to gel even better in training, which could then hurt the German team. We expect another strong offensive performance from the Americans, who are already averaging 4.25 goals per game.
Since the German team also scores 4.0 goals per game, we can expect a high-scoring match. This makes the odds for over 5.5 total goals in USA vs. Germany definitely worth a bet and our first tip recommendation.
Betting on the USA is an option
In addition, bets on a US victory are also a possibility here. The German team looked anything but fresh against Switzerland, and the two-day break should have done the US team good in this regard.
Our prediction for Team USA vs. Team D is therefore a win for the US boys, who would then overtake the German team in the table. However, in this somewhat weaker Group B, qualifying for the quarter-finals should not be a problem for either team.
Key Players:
- G: Jeremy Swayman
- D: Brady Skjei
- D: Zach Werenski
- LW: Matt Beniers
- C: Clayton Keller
- RW: Conor Garland
Germany – Statistics & current form
That was a clear setback against Switzerland. Where everything had been going so well before, the team showed major weaknesses against the Swiss, both offensively and defensively. Many players were at a loss to explain such a performance.
Heavy legs were one explanation, and of course the game against the USA comes a little too early. Especially since the Americans had an extra day to recover. We expect to see some holes in the German defense again and at least three goals from Team USA.
Defensive vulnerabilities
Although the German team scores 4.00 goals per game, they also concede 2.25 per game – and not necessarily against the strongest opponents so far. It would be surprising if they were to fare better against the offensively strong Americans.
So, for USA vs. Germany, betting on the Americans to score over 3 goals is another good option. However, as we also believe the German team is capable of scoring at least 2-3 goals, a total of 5.5 goals is still our favorite.
Stützle must lead the way
After Lukas Reichel’s withdrawal, Tim Stützle is the only NHL forward left in the squad. And he is the one who must now lead the way and inspire his teammates. That is what we expect – as well as a goal from the Ottawa Senators’ top striker.
Bets on a Stützle goal are therefore also a good option at odds of up to 2.80. Alternatively, we can even combine this bet with the general over points to get great value.
Key Players:
- G: Philipp Grubauer
- D: Moritz Seider
- D: Jonas Müller
- LW: Dominik Kahun
- C: Tim Stützle
- RW: Leo Pföderl
USA – Germany Head-to-head record / H2H record
As already mentioned, four of the last five head-to-head matches went to Team USA. However, the Germans have very fond memories of one of the most recent encounters – the game at the 2023 World Championship. The DEB team was on its way to the final and won 4-3 in overtime.
After that, however, there were two more clear victories for the Americans. At the last World Championships, Team USA won 6-1. It is unlikely to be as clear-cut on Saturday, but a victory for the US boys is still likely.
This means that the odds for Team USA in the USA vs. Germany match are even represented on our betting slip with a handicap of up to -1.5. Alternatively, a combination of a USA win + over points is also available to get the full value here.
USA – Germany Tip
Betting on the USA or on over points? This is the main question we are faced with here, and in the end we decide to go for the goals. After all, the Americans may be just as vulnerable defensively as they were against Norway, where they conceded five goals.
So, for Team USA vs. Team Germany, a bet on over 5.5 total goals is our number one betting option. This is followed by a bet on over 3.0 goals for the US boys.
We also have a player bet as an alternative tip: a goal from Tim Stützle. He has been a big support since his arrival, but he is still without a goal. That should change now against the defensively vulnerable Americans.
