Will the Gunners extend their winning streak?
We’re witnessing a historic moment in the Arsenal vs. Chelsea Women’s match. For the first time, two teams from the same city are facing off in a UEFA Women’s Champions League match. First, the Blues are making the short trip to the Arsenal Stadium to take on the reigning champions.
Renée Slegers’ players are entering the London derby in slightly better form. Ahead of our Arsenal vs. Chelsea Women’s prediction, the hosts have won nine consecutive competitive matches. Their dress rehearsal last weekend went as well as it could have (a 5-0 win over West Ham).
This clash is gaining significance, in part, due to the lack of title prospects in the domestic league competition. In recent years, the Blues dominated the Women’s Super League, celebrating six consecutive championships. This year, however, qualification for the top flight is in jeopardy for both London clubs.
If we trust the statistics from the recently concluded group stage, the visiting team is the joint-best attacking side of this UWCL season. Visiting coach Sonia Bompastor saw her team score an average of 3.3 goals per game during the six-match group stage.
As a result, the 45-year-old’s team finished the group stage in third place and avoided the additional playoff round. The Gunners participated in that round but had no trouble in their two matches against Oud-Heverlee Leuven (4-0, 3-1).
Arsenal – Chelsea Women Head-to-Head / H2H Record
The two English teams have never faced each other before in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. The defending champions from North London are already in their 17th appearance—a record they share with Olympique Lyon.
Across all competitions, the head-to-head record between the two rival clubs is relatively even. The Arsenal women won 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in January, securing their 27th victory against the Blues. The eight-time English champions are not far behind in terms of wins (23).
Arsenal – Chelsea Women Prediction
Across all competitions, the Arsenal women have celebrated nine consecutive competitive wins. Their record from recent UWCL appearances is no less impressive. In Europe’s premier women’s competition, the hosts have won their last five matches in a row.
Head coach Renée Siegers’ players were not spared the playoffs. However, the defending champions handled this extra challenge with flying colors, scoring seven goals in two matches against Oud-Heverlee Leuven and completing the all-English quarterfinal lineup.
The final in Oslo is the ultimate goal for both clubs. Unlike the hosts, the Chelsea women are one of three teams still undefeated in the current competition (4W, 2D). Away from home, the Blues have rarely faltered so far, losing just one of their previous 14 away matches across all competitions.
Head coach Sonia Bompastor has already seen 32 clear-cut chances from her squad—the most of any participating team. The team’s high number of ball recoveries per UWCL match (14.7) also provided a noticeable advantage. These two statistics pretty much sum up what we can expect from this London derby: intensity and scoring opportunities.
