Will De Rossi plunge Roma into crisis?

Four top teams were in Saudi Arabia for the Supercoppa Italiana, which gave AS Roma the chance to take the lead and regain top spot in the table. Instead, however, the Giallorossi lost their third of the last four Serie A games (one win) and are now only fourth in the Italian top flight with one game in hand.

Breaking news: Daniele De Rossi, a Roma legend, is now in charge of the visitors from Liguria. The 42-year-old played 459 competitive games for the Wolves between 2002 and 2019 and is an absolute club icon.

However, De Rossi will not be bringing any gifts to the Eternal City. After his debut in Liguria went so well, Genoa CFC have lost three of their last four competitive games (one win) and are in desperate need of more points. We expect the Rossolbù to put in a courageous performance at the Stadio Olimpico, especially as the Giallorossi’s defensive stalwart Evan Ndicka is away with Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations, which could make Roma’s otherwise strong defense a little more vulnerable than usual. Our main tip is therefore that the Grifone (in English: the griffin) will score at least one away goal on the Tiber.

Based purely on the omens, the obvious tip is for a low-scoring match. However, the top bookmakers are practically unanimous in their assessment, which in turn means that AS Roma vs. Genoa is offering high odds for a Monday night game with several goals. The odds are so high that, in our opinion, there is sufficient value. After all, the Rossoblù have scored more than twice as many goals away (eleven) as at home (only five), but they will have to do without their regular goalkeeper Nicola Leali, who was sent off against Bergamo.

AS Roma – Genoa Head-to-head record

Head to head: 61 – 27 – 38

A total of 126 matches have already taken place between the two teams, with AS Roma leading the head-to-head record very clearly with 61 wins. The Giallorossi have been particularly dominant in recent encounters, losing only one of their last 21 competitive matches against Genoa CFC (15 wins, five draws). In their last home game against the Rossoblù on January 17, 2025, the Wolves secured a 3-1 home win.

AS Roma – Genoa Tip

On Monday evening, two teams that have recently suffered setbacks will clash in the Eternal City. For both teams, only a win counts in the last competitive game of the 2025 calendar year, although there are some very painful absences on both sides. Roma’s defensive leader Ndicka is at the Africa Cup of Nations and Grifone’s regular goalkeeper Leali is serving a red card suspension. Contrary to the betting odds, our prediction for AS Roma vs. Genoa is that it will be a high-scoring match, especially since the visitors from Liguria generally enjoy traveling. Away from home, the Rossoblù scored more than twice as many goals (eleven) in 2025/26 as they did at home (five).

Although the Giallorossi have the best defense in Serie A, conceding only ten goals in 16 league games, they have kept a clean sheet in only two of their last seven games in all competitions. Partly due to the absence of Evan Ndicka, we therefore see the greatest value in betting on the visitors from Liguria to score, regardless of the outcome of the match. For over 0.5 Grifone goals, AS Roma vs. Genoa betting odds are 1.88 at Betano, which we are betting on with four out of ten units.
