How far are the Bayern women from the top in Europe?
FC Barcelona is currently the benchmark in European women’s soccer. Although the Catalans were unable to win the Champions League last season for a change, they remain the gold standard internationally with three titles in the last five editions.
At the start of the new WCL season, the star ensemble from Spain will face the German champions from Munich. The starting position seems clear, however, as significantly lower odds are being offered for a Barcelona vs. Bayern women’s tip on the hosts.
However, the FCB women are by no means cannon fodder. After all, Giulia Gwinn and Co. were able to hold their own in the top flight last season and reach the quarterfinals after a stable preliminary round. There, however, Lyon proved to be too strong in two games (0-2, 1-4). Apart from that, Spanish head coach Jose Barcala’s team has made a very good start to the new 2025/26 Bundesliga season.
After five match days, the defending champions from the Isar have 13 out of a possible 15 points to their name. Particularly noteworthy: goalkeeper Ena Mahmutovic has not conceded a single goal so far. The goal difference stands at 13:0. Only a 0:0 draw at home against underdogs Jena, in which the FCB women created a wealth of chances, disturbs the otherwise perfect picture, which is further enhanced by the Super Cup triumph against Wolfsburg (4:2) and the 4:1 victory in a friendly against Barca’s archrivals Real Madrid. Ahead of the exciting clash between Barcelona and Bayern Women, however, the Catalan side remains the far more realistic option.
This assessment is based on the fact that FC Barcelona Femení has a stronger squad in terms of both depth and quality and, in particular, performs at a different level to its competitors in terms of technical finesse. With Aita Bonmati and Alexia Putellas, for example, young coach Pere Romeu can call on the world’s best female footballers of the last five (!) years. Former Wolfsburg player Ewa Pajor scored over 40 goals in her debut season for FCB. Added to this are young talents such as Vicky Lopez and Sydney Schertenleib, who combine athleticism and dynamism with footballing class. Normally, the Bayern women cannot keep up with this.
On the other hand, the WCL winners of 2021, 2023, and 2024, who narrowly and surprisingly lost the final to Arsenal in 2025, are currently brimming with confidence. In the league, they have celebrated six wins in six games, scoring 31 goals and conceding just one. In five of six league games and also in four of the last five WCL games, a bet on over 3.5 goals would have paid off. This is one of the reasons why the odds on over goals are once again playing a key role in my considerations for Tuesday evening’s match between Barcelona and Bayern Women. In the Bet365 app, a solid 1.54 can be played for the Asian over 3 goals.
Barcelona – Bayern Women Head-to-head comparison / H2H record
The two clubs have met five times in the past. Bayern won two of those five encounters (three defeats), including the most recent head-to-head in the 2022/23 WCL group stage. On that occasion, the Munich team won 3-1 at home, despite constant pressure from the Barca offense, which fired 23 shots on goal, earned 16 corner kicks, and played more than twice as many passes as the German league leaders.
Over the past three years, the gap between the teams has probably widened even further, so it’s no surprise that ahead of the Barcelona vs. Bayern Women match, the betting odds for a home win have risen to a maximum of 1.20 in the Interwetten app. Bayern’s long-time rival Wolfsburg also felt the dominance of the Barca women in the quarterfinals last season. They lost both legs 1-4 and 1-6.
Barcelona – Bayern Women Tip
At the national level, the women’s teams of FC Barcelona and FC Bayern have made an outstanding start. The Catalans celebrated six wins in six games, scoring an average of over five goals per game. The Munich team has 13 points from five games and has not conceded a single goal.
That is likely to change on Tuesday evening at the Estadi Johann Cruyff, however, as Barca’s offense has been considered the strongest on the continent for years. In just four playoff games in last season’s WCL, Pajor and Co. scored 18 goals against top teams.
I therefore believe that the Bundesliga team will feel the full force of the hosts’ offensive power. At Interwetten, you can bet 1.65 on FCB Femeni scoring in both halves. Alternatively, you could bet on more than three goals being scored in the game. Bayern’s attack should not be underestimated either. Asian betting odds are 1.54 at Bet365.
