Another setback for Bulgaria?

Between 1962 and 1998, Bulgaria qualified for seven out of ten consecutive World Cups. In 1994 in the USA, the Lions even reached the semi-finals. Since the turn of the millennium, however, Bulgaria has failed to qualify for any of the six World Cup finals. There is little to suggest a comeback at the 2026 World Cup either.

The current number 86 in the FIFA world rankings lost their first two group games 0-3. Under such an unlucky star, the tip for Bulgaria against Turkey is that they will now manage a turnaround against the Ay-Yildizlilar of all teams, even though the Turks have not qualified for a World Cup since 2002.

Nevertheless, the Turkish team has not given up hope in Group E. Although they recently suffered a heavy 6-0 defeat against Spain, which also damaged their goal difference, the Ay-Yildizlilar won the complicated away game in Georgia 3-2, which was at least a hint towards second place, which would still take them to the playoffs. We don’t expect a goal fest in Sofia, but we do expect the Turks to pick up another point. Accordingly, in our Bulgaria vs. Turkey prediction, we recommend the match combo on the double chance X2 with under 3.5 goals.

The biggest problem for the Bulgarian national soccer team is likely to be scoring against the Turks in the first place. Not only have the Lions failed to win any of their last seven international matches (two draws, five defeats), but they have also lost their last three international matches in a row without scoring a single goal, conceding a total of ten goals in the process.

Against this backdrop, it would also be conceivable to bet on the Ay-Yildizlilar winning to nil at the Vasil Levski National Stadium. Interwetten is offering odds of 1.90 for Bulgaria to beat Turkey.

Bulgaria – Turkey Head-to-head record / H2H record

Head to head: 8 – 7 – 7

A total of 22 matches have been played between the two nations so far, and with eight wins, the Bulgarian team even leads the head-to-head record against Turkey, although the Ay-Yildizlilar have clearly had the upper hand in recent encounters. The Turkish national soccer team has won three of its last four international matches against Bulgaria and also beat the Lions 4–0 in Istanbul in their last encounter on June 8, 2015.

Bulgaria – Turkey Tip

The betting odds from the top bookmakers are clearly in favor of the visitors in Bulgaria vs. Turkey, who have won three of their last four international matches against the Lions and have already secured their first three points in Group E against Georgia. The Ay-Yildizlilar are aiming for a World Cup ticket and want to secure at least second place, which will require an away win against the bottom team, who are still without points and goals. Vincenzo Montella’s team will undoubtedly bring sufficient quality to Sofia.

Meanwhile, the Lions have several issues to address at once. They have lost their last three international matches in a row with a goal difference of 0-10, which has exposed weaknesses in all areas of the team. We expect them to tighten up their defense first, which suggests a rather defensive performance. Accordingly, it is interesting to bet on a match between Bulgaria and Turkey that will not be too high-scoring.

The best value is offered by the combined bet on double chance X2 with under 3.5 goals, which we are placing at Betano at odds of 1.65 with six out of ten units.
