Will Cagliari prove to be a stumbling block for Milan?

The race for the Italian championship is more exciting and evenly matched this year than it has been for a long time. Only four points separate Inter Milan, who are top of the table, and Juventus, who are fifth. AC Milan are right in the thick of it too. The Rossoneri are currently the closest challengers to their black and blue city rivals.

This is hardly surprising, as coach Massimiliano Allegri’s team suffered their last and only defeat in Serie A on August 23, 2025. Luka Modric, Christian Pulisic, and Co. are even completely undefeated away from home. Unsurprisingly, this is also reflected in the odds offered by the best betting providers, which are significantly lower for a bet on “Il Diavolo” than for a potential three-way bet on the home team ahead of the upcoming match between Cagliari and AC Milan.

However, a certain residual risk remains, as the Sardinians have made significant progress in recent weeks. Looking back at the last seven league games, they have only suffered two defeats. However, both defeats came away from home and were narrow losses against Champions League participants Juventus and Atalanta Bergamo (1-2 in each case).

Meanwhile, their last defeat at home was over two months ago. Among other things, coach Fabio Pisacana’s team also won at home against AS Roma around four weeks ago. I therefore believe that a prediction of a point for the hosts is entirely feasible between Cagliari and AC Milan.

It is also striking that the red and blues from the south of the country have great offensive potential. This is reflected, for example, in the 19 goals they have scored. No other team in the lower half of the table has scored more goals than the 14th-placed team, which has scored at least once in seven consecutive matches across all competitions.

Considering that Milan have conceded two or more goals in three of their last four competitive games, I think it’s logical to recommend the “Both teams to score” odds between Cagliari and AC Milan.

Cagliari – AC Milan Head-to-head record

Cagliari’s last triumph against AC Milan dates back several years. The Sardinians last prevailed against the Lombards in 2017. This was followed by 15 competitive games in a row in which the Rossoneri did not lose to the Rossoblu. Il Diavolo even won eleven of these 15 encounters. However, this statistic needs to be taken with a pinch of salt, as the last two direct duels in the previous season ended in draws. On Friday evening, betting odds of up to 4.20 are available for a third consecutive draw between Cagliari and AC Milan.

Cagliari – AC Milan Tip

Theoretically, Niclas Füllkrug could make his Serie A debut on Friday evening. Milan signed the German international striker from West Ham United and has high hopes for him. With his presence in the box and his heading ability, the former Dortmund player is expected to add a new dimension to the Rossoneri’s attacking play. Even without Füllkrug, however, Allegri’s team has performed very satisfactorily so far. They have only suffered one defeat. Away from home, the Red and Blacks are even completely unbeaten. In Cagliari, too, Milan are considered the favorites at the start of the new year.

In my opinion, however, the Cagliari vs. AC Milan tip that both teams will score at least once is far more attractive and profitable than a three-way bet on the visitors. The hosts have scored in seven consecutive competitive games and also have the most dangerous attack in the lower half of the table. Meanwhile, the second-placed team has recently shown slight defensive weaknesses. In addition, they have failed to win twice in a row against the Red and Blues.
