Must-win game for the Blues

In the third round of this year’s FA Cup, Charlton and Chelsea will face off, and Wettbasis has a tip for the London derby. Both teams are entering the competition with this match, and the home side, as a second division team, are the clear underdogs in the match.

The Addicks are also only represented in the British lower house as a promoted team, and after 25 rounds of play, they are only in 19th place in the 24-team Championship. The visitors, for their part, have had a turbulent start to the year.

On New Year’s Day, Enzo Maresca was relieved of his duties as coach of the Blues. The Italian had led CFC to the title at last year’s Club World Cup and booked the club a place in the Champions League.

But in the weeks leading up to his self-inflicted dismissal, Chelsea had been performing poorly. His successor is now Englishman Liam Rosenior. The 41-year-old was coaching Racing Strasbourg in Ligue 1 until last weekend and is taking on his first coaching job in the Premier League.

We now expect a positive coaching effect with regard to the recently often shaky defense. Against this backdrop, the prediction for the match between Charlton and Chelsea is an away win to nil.

In addition, we expect the favorites to win by at least two goals and a goal from Enzo Fernandez for the visitors. The Argentine is currently scoring very reliably and has found the net in two of the last three Premier League games.

Charlton – Chelsea Head-to-head record

The teams are facing each other for the first time since 2007. Back then, Chelsea won 1-0 away, and thanks to that victory, the Blues are unbeaten in eight games against their city rivals (6-2-0) and have kept a clean sheet in the majority (5) of those encounters.

The bookmakers now expect this balance of power to continue, as the Charlton vs. Chelsea odds are very clearly in favor of a win for the visitors.

Charlton vs. Chelsea Tip

Chelsea traditionally feels at home in the FA Cup: the Blues have won the competition eight times! Only Arsenal (14) and Manchester United (13) have won it more times. Their entry into this year’s FA Cup against their city rivals should be nothing more than a formality.

The 1947 FA Cup winners were still playing in the third division until last season, and given their performance in the Championship this season, they could find themselves back in League One immediately. From a playing perspective, the representatives from the British lower house are therefore clearly inferior.

We also expect the change of coach to have a positive impact on the visitors. In light of this situation, the betting odds for an away win for the favorites without a goal from the home team of Welsh coach Nathan Jones are recommended for the match between Charlton and Chelsea.
