Coventry wants to extend its lead in the top match
At the moment, there are many indications that Frank Lampard will grace the Premier League with his presence again next season. The Chelsea legend has been under contract as coach at Coventry City for 13 months and has since ensured that the Sky Blues have developed from a lower mid-table team into one of the absolute top teams in the Championship.
While the club from near Birmingham failed in the playoff semifinals last season, direct promotion to the top flight beckons in 2025/26. As league leaders, CCFC currently have a comfortable eight-point lead over the second-placed team. Lampard’s team could take the next big step on Monday evening, when Coventry and Ipswich face off and the tip is on the leaders.
However, the visitors should definitely not be dismissed as walk-in customers. After all, the Tractor Boys are a Premier League relegation team who, currently third in the standings, have a say in the return to the top flight of English soccer. In order to close the current five-point gap to Middlesbrough (5th), coach Kieran McKenna’s team must improve, especially away from home.
They have picked up just 13 points from their 11 away games so far. Twelfth place in the away table does not meet their own expectations. Two points from their last four away games in the Championship are another indication that a Coventry vs. Ipswich prediction in favor of the Blues should be avoided.
Considering that Coventry City is also by far the best home team in the league and has so far picked up 29 out of a possible 33 points, it is quite surprising that relatively high odds are being offered for a home win in the run-up to the Coventry vs. Ipswich match. Among others, Interwetten is offering 2.45 on the next three points for the league leaders, who have not dropped any points at home since September 13. Eight home wins in a row are another strong statement!
Coventry – Ipswich Head-to-head comparison / H2H record
The head-to-head record is the only argument in favor of Ipswich. The two clubs faced each other on St. Nicholas Day. Ipswich won their home game against the undisputed leaders by an unexpected 3-0 margin. The FA Cup duel in February this year also ended 4-1 in favor of the Premier League relegation team. Overall, Town has four wins in a row.

Coventry – Ipswich Tip
Coventry City is having an outstanding season so far. They are 13 points ahead of their upcoming opponent, who is in third place in the standings. It almost seems as if the bookmakers are assuming that the leaders will slip up a little just before the turn of the year. The relatively balanced betting odds cannot be explained by the H2h alone.
In my opinion, however, there is a lot to be said for the hosts, who have won nine of eleven home games in the league, drawn only twice, and most recently left their home stadium as winners eight times in a row. Defensively, the Sky Blues are also the benchmark, having conceded only seven goals in front of their home crowd. My Coventry vs. Ipswich tip is therefore for a combined 1X with under 3.5 goals. I’m betting four units on the 1.95 offered by Bet-at-home.
