Will BVB remain unfazed?
Thanks to another lackluster but well-deserved 2-0 home win last week against FC Augsburg, Borussia Dortmund improved its tally to 58 points after 26 matchdays. By comparison, BVB finished the previous season with 57 points. Overall, the Black and Yellows are actually having a season that would be enough to win the championship in many other leagues.
Kovac’s team has suffered just two losses so far in the 2025/26 German top flight. Their last defeat against an opponent not named “FC Bayern” was over a year ago. Against this backdrop, the bet on a home win naturally plays an important role in my considerations for Saturday night’s match between Dortmund and HSV.
However, HSV is also traveling to Signal Iduna Park with some confidence. The Hamburg side has lost just two of its last ten league games. Their former weakness on the road has also given way to a newfound consistency in away matches. Significantly, the Rothosen have not lost a single Bundesliga away game in 2026. Nevertheless, nothing changes in the basic Dortmund vs. HSV prediction: the home team’s performance will determine who leaves the field as the winner and who as the loser.
Fans with the diamond in their hearts are likely to have fond memories of the first leg, however. In the seventh minute of stoppage time, Ransford Königsdorffer scored the celebrated goal for a 1-1 draw at the Volkspark.
Dortmund vs. HSV AI Prediction
This is reflected in a nearly 70% probability of victory as well as a significant advantage in xG values (2.11 vs. 0.85). Since the total expected goals don’t even exceed 3.00, the Dortmund vs. HSV AI prediction leans toward Under 3.5 at 1.60 with Interwetten. Alternatively, the Asian Under 3 at Bet365 can be backed at 1.94.
Dortmund – Statistics & Current Form
Unlike last season, when Borussia had to sweat it out until the very end for their Champions League spot, BVB officials can already check that box with seven matchdays remaining. Sitting in second place, they hold an eight-point cushion over third place and a 11-point lead over fifth place.
Dortmund has conceded only eleven goals at home
It is therefore extremely unlikely that Dortmund will slip down the standings. Especially given that even the bitter defeat to Bayern in the top-of-the-table clash and the avoidable elimination from the UEFA Champions League in Bergamo did not shake the team’s confidence.
In any case, they emerged victorious from the two subsequent matches in Cologne (2-1) and at home against FC Augsburg (2-0).
They have won seven of their last eight home games, five of them with a clean sheet. No team has conceded fewer goals at home than Kovac’s side. Their total of twelve clean sheets is actually the best record in the league. In my opinion, it’s definitely worth considering combining the odds for a home win with under goals or even a clean sheet for Saturday night’s match between Dortmund and HSV.

HSV – Stats & Current Form
Although it feels as though Hamburger SV is out of the woods in the relegation battle, the traditional club—which has finally made it back to the top flight after many years—definitely cannot afford to be complacent. Despite sitting in eleventh place in the table, they currently hold only a six-point lead over the relegation spot. In the seven remaining matches, the team will undoubtedly need more points and victories to achieve its season goal.
HSV has stabilized on the road
Admittedly, however, concerns are limited, especially since the former Bundesliga stalwart has been tough to beat lately. Two losses in the last ten league matches underscore this impressively. Along with VfB Stuttgart, Borussia Dortmund, and FC Bayern Munich, the promoted side has suffered the fewest defeats (one) in the second half of the season so far. They picked up four points from their last two matches, including an away win in Wolfsburg. Moreover, it was the fourth consecutive Bundesliga away game that the Rothosen did not lose (2-2-0).
However, over the course of the entire season, no other Bundesliga team has scored fewer goals on the road than coach Merlin Polzin’s squad. Nine goals in twelve away matches are certainly nothing to write home about for the Hamburg offense, which in a way relies on the individual quality of Fabio Vieira. With five goals, he leads the team’s scoring chart, and the Portuguese player, on loan from Arsenal, has also contributed four assists. If BVB manages to contain the creative midfielder, it would come as no surprise if the 11th-place team leaves Signal Iduna Park empty-handed.

Dortmund – HSV Head-to-Head Record
Borussia Dortmund has not lost any of its last six Bundesliga matches against Hamburger SV. The Black and Yellows have celebrated 16 out of a possible 18 points during this period. The only draw came in the first half of the season, when the teams faced each other in the top flight for the first time in seven years.
As mentioned earlier, Königsdorffer scored in the 97th minute to make it 1-1, after Dortmund had previously squandered several chances to take control of the match. At home, however, BVB has won eight of its last ten Bundesliga home games against HSV. I think it’s very likely that number nine will be added on Saturday night.
Dortmund – HSV Prediction
Trailing FC Bayern by nine points, it would be presumptuous from Dortmund’s perspective to still talk about the German championship. However, the runner-up spot seems virtually certain for the Black and Yellows. BVB has been too consistent and too stable this season. Especially at home, there have been very few slip-ups, which is hardly surprising given that they’ve conceded only eleven goals. They’ve won seven of their last eight home league games, with Gregor Kobeld keeping a clean sheet in five of those matches.
Although Hamburger SV has nothing to be ashamed of after their recent decent results at Signal Iduna Park, it should be noted that Polzin’s side still has the league’s weakest away offense, having scored just nine goals. I am therefore combining a home win with Under 4.5 goals in my Dortmund vs. HSV prediction.
