Will BVB jump to the top for a few hours?
In the last four Bundesliga matchdays, there were exactly three teams that managed to score the maximum number of points. In addition to FC Bayern, these were Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig. On Saturday afternoon, the eagerly awaited direct duel between the latter two clubs will take place, both of which can be absolutely satisfied with their respective starts to the new season. While BVB is still undefeated in all competitions, the visitors from Saxony have also quickly found their feet after their crushing defeat in Munich. However, it remains to be seen whether Werner’s team is already strong enough to seriously consider betting on the Bulls between Dortmund and RB Leipzig.
In terms of soccer, two rather different approaches will clash. The Black and Yellows are the team that has had the most sequences of more than ten passes in a row so far this season. The controlled and structured style of play of the current second-placed team contrasts with a much wilder style of play from the team from the central city. After all, no other team has launched more direct vertical attacks in the first five matchdays. Therefore, in the run-up to the Dortmund vs. RB Leipzig match, the outcome of the game will primarily be influenced by which team is more consistent in implementing its approach on the pitch.
Coach Niko Kovac’s home team, who celebrated a 4-1 home win against Athletic Bilbao in the Champions League during the week, even have the chance to temporarily jump to the top of the table with a win on Saturday afternoon, as Bayern don’t have to play until 6:30 p.m. at Eintracht Frankfurt in the second top match of the sixth Bundesliga matchday.
Dortmund vs. RB Leipzig AI prediction
The estimated xG values of 1.95 to 1.21 underline the presumed advantages for the Black and Yellows. However, there is more value in the Dortmund vs. RB Leipzig AI prediction of a maximum of three goals in the game. The total xG value of 3.15 is lower than the under 3.5, so the 1.83 odds at Interwetten are worth considering.
Dortmund – Statistics & current form
It has been almost three months since Borussia Dortmund last lost a competitive match. After being eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup by Real Madrid (1-2), BVB has played eight matches across all competitions, recording six wins (two draws). In the Bundesliga, they have 13 points from five games, and they have also made a successful start in the UEFA Champions League with four points from two games.
Dortmund’s defense is fueling dreams of a successful season
But that’s not all, because across all competitions, the Black and Yellows have not lost any of their last 13 (!) Bundesliga games. They have picked up 35 out of a possible 39 points during this period. Their last defeat in the league dates back to mid-March and came against their upcoming opponents RB Leipzig, of all teams. Nevertheless, the arguments in favor of a Kovac-led victory in Saturday afternoon’s match between Dortmund and RB Leipzig outweigh those against it.
First and foremost is their currently very stable defense. All three goals conceded so far can be attributed to the 3-3 draw at FC St. Pauli in the opening game – the only points dropped in the Bundesliga. Two of these three goals were conceded by Gregor Kobel while his team was down to ten men. The last four league games, however, have all been won with a clean sheet. Five consecutive clean sheets would be a new club record!
Given the strong defense, to which Nico Schlotterbeck will return after his short creative break in the 4-1 win against Bilbao, I am not averse to betting on few goals in the game. Alternatively, the Dortmund vs. RB Leipzig betting odds for a “clean sheet” victory also offer plenty of value. At Winamax, for example, you can get 4.40 for a narrow 1-0, 2-0, or 3-0 result.

RB Leipzig – Statistics & current form
Marco Rose was still coach when RB Leipzig last managed to win five Bundesliga games in a row in April/May 2023. Ole Werner is now at the helm of the central German club and has made a very solid start to his tenure. Only Julian Nagelsmann had a better start as RB coach than the former Werder coach. After a disastrous start in Munich, the Saxons have celebrated four wins in a row, catapulting themselves up the table. With twelve out of a possible 15 points, they are currently in a strong third place in the interim rankings.
Will RB Leipzig win their third Bundesliga away game of the season?
In my opinion, the Bulls are still a long way from returning to their glory days, when they were one of Bayern’s toughest rivals in the German top flight. Nevertheless, the club’s management must be credited with doing a good job in ensuring that the transfers made are once again more in line with RB’s DNA. Many highly talented youngsters have been signed, especially in attack, but their performances still fluctuate greatly. In many cases, their inexperience is an additional factor.
The defense also deserves praise, having kept a clean sheet in three of the last four games and clearly benefiting from not having to defend as much space as in the previous season, for example. In a clash between two good defensive lines, it therefore makes perfect sense to put the odds on under goals between Dortmund and RB Leipzig on your betting slip. This is supported not least by the fact that the Saxons have won both of their Bundesliga away games in Mainz and Wolfsburg 1-0. On both occasions, Johan Bakayoko was the match winner with the only goal of the day.

Dortmund – RB Leipzig Head-to-head record
Since the start of the 2021/22 season, Borussia Dortmund has suffered more defeats against RB Leipzig than against any other league rival. Six of the last eight encounters in Germany’s top flight have gone to the energy drink club. Overall, the record is absolutely balanced with eight wins and only two draws each. Five of these eight Bundesliga victories can be attributed to BVB’s home games. Last season, the respective home teams also prevailed. Dortmund won 2-1 and RBL won 2-0. In both cases, no more than three goals were scored. I expect the same for this Saturday.
Dortmund – RB Leipzig Tip
Although the omens ahead of the match between Dortmund and RB Leipzig are not quite so clear-cut, I am leaning heavily towards the Black and Yellows. 13 unbeaten Bundesliga games in a row, only home wins so far this season and strong attacking players are compelling arguments in favor of BVB.
RBL should not be underestimated, but they have not exactly put in convincing performances so far. The 6-0 defeat in Munich still lingers. The team is young, hungry, but also inexperienced and wild. All of this leads me to predict a home win between Dortmund and RB Leipzig.
