Will Bremen’s downward spiral continue in 2026?
SV Werder Bremen went into the winter break on a negative run of five league games without a win (two draws, three defeats). During this period, Werder failed to score in three of those games before the start of the new year fell victim to the onset of winter. Now the Green-Whites travel to Borussia Dortmund – currently second in the table and unbeaten in nine league games (five wins, four draws). Given this situation, there is much to suggest that the tip that SVW will once again fail to score against Dortmund will prove correct.
The Weserelf have not performed particularly well away from home either. Horst Steffen’s men have won only one of their eight Bundesliga away games so far. BVB, on the other hand, are the only Bundesliga team apart from Bayern to remain completely unbeaten at home. What’s more, the Black and Yellows have conceded only four goals in seven home games, making them by far the best home defense in the Bundesliga. Against this backdrop, the prediction that the visitors from the Weser will fail to score at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund vs. Werder Bremen is very plausible.
In general, it shouldn’t be a high-scoring game, because the Black and Yellows, who just managed to salvage a 3-3 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt last Friday, absolutely must step up their defensive game. We expect Kovac’s team to be much more focused and compact defensively, which is why it would be a valid bet to use the practical Betano app to bet on a maximum of three goals in total at odds of 1.72 for Dortmund vs. Werder Bremen. After all, Bremen have repeatedly struggled to score goals and failed to find the net twice in a row before the winter break against Stuttgart (0-4) and Augsburg (0-0).
Dortmund – Statistics & current form
Borussia Dortmund may have been knocked out of the DFB Cup at the beginning of December with a 0-1 home defeat against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Apart from that, however, the Black and Yellows are fully on course overall. In the Bundesliga, there is an 11-point gap to leaders Bayern Munich. However, they currently hold a comfortable four-point lead over the team in third place.
Even if Dortmund’s home win against Werder Bremen does not materialize as expected, Niko Kovac’s team would still be on course for the runner-up spot and with it, qualification for the UEFA Champions League. And speaking of the premier class: In the current Champions League table, BVB is in tenth place with eleven out of a possible 18 points and still has a chance of finishing in the top eight, which would give them a direct ticket to the round of 16.
Borussia Dortmund doesn’t let much slip at home
Since losing to Bayern, the Black and Yellows have remained unbeaten in nine Bundesliga games in a row (five wins, four draws), although they almost suffered a setback at the start of the year after a conciliatory 2-0 home win against Borussia Mönchengladbach in their last competitive game of 2025. However, a literal last-minute goal from Carney Chukwuemeka on Friday evening at Eintracht Frankfurt saw the Westphalians manage a late 3-3 equalizer, prolonging their unbeaten run.
That game, however, reminded everyone, especially the defense, which may be strengthened in the winter, that they need to be much more compact. At least at their home ground, Signal Iduna Park, they have been much less vulnerable. While they have conceded 11 goals in nine away games, they have only conceded four goals in seven Bundesliga home games, none of which they have lost (five wins, two draws). This means that BVB currently has by far the best home defense in the top flight of German soccer, which is also a bargaining chip for this Tuesday evening game.

Werder Bremen – Statistics & current form
SV Werder Bremen wanted to build on last year’s strong eighth place finish under new coach Horst Steffen, but ended the 2025 calendar year in the lower half of the table after a five-game winless streak (two draws, three defeats). Although they are still comfortably above the relegation zone, they are not quite where they want to be.
If they suffer another defeat, which seems quite likely according to the odds offered by the top betting providers for Dortmund vs. Werder Bremen, the ice could become even thinner. To a certain extent, Werder are under pressure at Signal Iduna Park, even though they have lost twelve of their last 17 away games at BVB (two wins, three draws).
Werder Bremen with major problems in attack
Overall, the Green-Whites’ away record leaves a lot to be desired, having won only one of their eight Bundesliga away games in the 2025/26 season (three draws, four defeats) and scoring only ten goals on the road. Above all, the occasional lack of offensive punch is one of the main reasons why the team’s gaze must be directed downward rather than upward in the new season. The North Germans have scored only 18 goals in total in their 15 league games.
The problem is that promising youngster Victor Boniface, who is currently out with injury, has failed to make an impact at all on the Weser and has only managed two assists and not a single goal in eleven brief appearances totaling 326 minutes in the Bundesliga. The offensive problem area is now to be addressed by Stuttgart loanee Jovan Milosevic. However, it remains to be seen whether the 20-year-old Serbian will make an immediate impact. This is reflected in the fact that Jens Stage, a midfielder who is more defensive than offensive, is currently Bremen’s top scorer with five goals this season.

Dortmund – Werder Bremen Head-to-head record
Head to head: 53 – 22 – 46
The two teams have met a total of 121 times so far, with Borussia Dortmund leading the head-to-head record with 53 wins. The Westphalians are unbeaten in their last five Bundesliga matches against SV Werder Bremen (three wins, two draws), although both the first leg at the Weser (0-0) and the return leg at Signal Iduna Park (2-2) ended in draws in the 2024/25 season.
Dortmund – Werder Bremen Tip
Basically, there is almost no alternative to predicting a home win for Dortmund against Werder Bremen. While BVB are unbeaten in nine league games (five wins, four draws) and have conceded only four goals in seven Bundesliga home games, SVW have been waiting for another three points for five league games (two draws, three defeats) and have failed to score in three of those five games. Against this backdrop, it is likely to be very difficult for the Green-Whites to even score an away goal, especially as they simply lack individual quality up front.
Overall, however, we consider the betting odds for tip 1 in Dortmund vs. Werder Bremen, which are around 1.35 at the best bookmakers, to be too low to offer any value. After all, SVW managed to hold BVB to a draw in both league games last season. Nevertheless, we don’t think Werder are capable of more than a lucky 0-0 draw at the moment, which is why we think the best value is in betting on under 0.5 goals for Bremen in this Tuesday evening game.
