Will the Bialo-Czerwoni maintain their lead?
In Group G of the World Cup qualifiers, the Polish national soccer team leads the table after two wins. The Bialo-Czerwoni have won both of their qualifying matches so far without conceding a goal and are now looking to build on that in Helsinki. Basically, the tip for Finland against Poland is for an away win for the Orly, as the Finns have lost their last two international matches against Poland by a resounding 1-10.
Overall, things are not going too well for the Huuhkajat at the moment. The Finns have won only one of their last eleven international matches (two draws, eight defeats) – a 1-0 win in Malta on the first day of World Cup qualifying. Most recently, they failed to win against Lithuania (2-2) and the Netherlands (0-2), which is why Finland’s prospects of gaining a point against the in-form Bialo-Czerwoni seem rather slim.
Most recently, the Finnish national soccer team was also relegated from Group B2 of the UEFA Nations League with six defeats in six games and a goal difference of 2-13. However, the Polish team also bid farewell to League A, where they only managed to secure four out of a possible 18 points. For both nations, qualifying for the 2026 World Cup would therefore be a bit of redemption, although the Netherlands is of course the top favorite in Group G of the World Cup qualifiers.
Finland – Statistics & current form
The Finnish national soccer team has never successfully qualified for a World Cup before, but has benefited from the recent expansion of major tournaments. In the summer of 2021, the Huuhkajat (meaning “eagle owls”) qualified for the European Championship for the first time, but were eliminated in the preliminary round.
Three years later, Finland missed out on another European Championship. Things are not looking too good for their World Cup debut either. In three qualifying matches in Group G, coach Jacob Friis’s team only managed to secure four out of a possible nine points. While the recent 0-2 defeat against the Netherlands was perhaps somewhat expected, the 2-2 draw against Lithuania was particularly painful.
Finland with poor record in recent international matches
It is clear that the only way to finish in the top two is to win against Poland. However, LeoVegas is offering odds of 4.90 for a home win for the Huuhkajat, who have lost their last two international matches against the Bialo-Czerwoni by a score of 1-10. New customers can also claim a 100% deposit bonus up to €100 with the LeoVegas bonus.
Overall, the Finns, whose key players such as 35-year-old Teemu Pukki (HJK) and Lukas Hradecky (Leverkusen), who is the same age, are getting on in years, are not particularly well-staffed, which is also reflected in their recent results. The Finns have won only one of their last eleven international matches (two draws, eight defeats) and are therefore facing a mammoth task at home in Helsinki.
Poland – Statistics & current form
There is currently a lot of turmoil in the Polish national soccer team. The latest low point came on Monday morning when Robert Lewandowski announced on Instagram that he would not play for Poland again until coach Michal Probierz was sacked. What happened? The coach recently dropped his star striker as captain of the national team and replaced him with Piotr Zielinski (Inter Milan), who played his 100th international match in Helsinki.
The goal-getter did not take this lying down. According to reports, he recently criticized Michal Probierz’s tactical approach openly in the dressing room and is said to have started an argument. What is true is unclear. The fact is, however, that the unrest comes at an inopportune time, as the Bialo-Czerwoni (English: the White-Reds) have made a very strong start to World Cup qualifying with two 2-0 wins over Lithuania and Malta.
Poland celebrated three consecutive 2-0 wins
If the Orly’s prediction of an away win for Finland against Poland comes true, the Poles could go into their first top match against the Netherlands in September with a lot of confidence. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen what effect the turmoil surrounding Robert Lewandowski will have on the team. After all, the FC Barcelona striker is an important goal scorer.
At least last Friday, the team seemed unfazed in their friendly against Moldova, recording a 2-0 home win that should have given them some extra confidence. Overall, the Bialo-Czerwoni have now won three international matches in a row without conceding a goal and have made amends for their relegation from Nations League Group A1, where they conceded 16 goals and picked up only four points from a possible 18 in six games.
Finland – Poland Head-to-head record
Head to head: 3 – 8 – 19
The two nations have met a total of 30 times so far, with Poland leading the head-to-head record very clearly with 19 wins. The Bialo-Czerwoni have won their last two international matches against Finland by a score of 10:1 and are traveling to Helsinki with confidence.
Finland – Poland Prediction
Despite recent developments, which culminated in the retirement of Robert Lewandowski, our prediction for Finland vs. Poland is an away win for the Bialo-Czerwoni, who face a nation in extremely poor form in Helsinki, having won only one of their last eleven international matches (two draws, eight defeats). The Huuhkajat have also lost their last two international matches against the Orly by a total score of 1-10 and are only in second place in Group G of the World Cup qualifiers because, unlike all the other four nations, they have already played three games.
The Polish team, on the other hand, has won both of its Group G matches so far without conceding a goal and can therefore defend its lead in Helsinki, which we consider very likely given the difference in quality between the two nations’ squads.
