Eintracht toothless in attack again?

The winter break is over! Finally, the ball is rolling again in the German top flight. The first round of matches in the new year kicks off with Frankfurt against Dortmund, and Wettbasis is sending a tip to the Main. The hosts definitely have a score to settle with their guests.

Last October, they were dramatically eliminated by the Black and Yellows in the second round of the DFB Cup on penalties in front of their own fans. This means they will be looking for revenge and will be extra motivated, especially as Eintracht have not forgotten the DFB Cup final they lost in 2017.

However, the personnel situation in Frankfurt remains less than ideal. The main reason for this assessment is the absence of Jonathan Burkardt. The striker is the club’s top scorer with eight goals in just ten league games, which is why his absence is particularly painful for the Hessians.

Without the former Mainz player, Eintracht’s offense is noticeably weaker and has scored only three goals in the last four league games. This shortcoming was also evident in the Champions League. In the premier class, only one goal was scored in the last three rounds. Against this backdrop, the prediction for the match between Frankfurt and Dortmund is for a maximum of one goal from Toppmöller’s team.

Frankfurt vs. Dortmund AI prediction

AI has also taken a close look at the match on the Main and discovered value in the odds for a home win. Artificial intelligence puts the probability of this outcome at 32 percent.

This value tops the Frankfurt win odds of 3.25 available at Interwetten (as of 06.01.2026, 11:01), which can be converted into a probability of 30.8 percent.

Frankfurt – Statistics & current form

The Hessians made their move on the transfer market during the winter break: Not least because of the aforementioned loss of Jonathan Burkardt and the loan of Elye Wahi to Nice on the Mediterranean, they signed striker Younes Ebnoutalib. The 22-year-old was born in Frankfurt and comes from SV Elversberg. In the current 2025/26 season in the German second division, he has scored twelve goals in 17 league games, putting him at the top of the scoring charts!

For a transfer fee of less than ten million euros, Ebnoutalib can be considered a bargain, and Eintracht has secured a highly talented striker with his signing. At the same time, it is clear that the youngster will certainly need time to settle into the Bundesliga, which is why we do not expect him to immediately remedy the aforementioned difficulties in Eintracht’s offense.

In addition, it is becoming apparent that the problems in defense will remain, as no significant purchases have been made in this part of the team. Only Heidenheim, second from bottom, concedes more goals than Hessen, with an average of two goals per game!

Next goal for Frankfurt after the break?

The hosts’ defense is particularly vulnerable in the second half, conceding 18 goals in 15 league games – the worst record of any Bundesliga team. Against this backdrop, the Frankfurt vs. Dortmund odds for a goal by the visitors after the break are also worth considering.

On the other hand, the hosts usually get off to a successful start in the new calendar year. They have started with a win in six of the last seven years, but the only exception was in 2022 with a 2-3 home defeat against their upcoming opponents!

Dortmund – Statistics & current form

BVB coach Niko Kovac can be satisfied with the season so far and is looking forward to the Frankfurt Dortmund tip with confidence. Only the record champions from the Isar are ahead of the Black and Yellows in the table. Since mid-October and a defeat against the aforementioned FCB, the visitors have not lost in league play (5-3-0).

Dortmund’s successful interim record is mainly due to their strong defense. Only the unstoppable league leaders from Munich have conceded fewer goals than BVB. Dortmund’s solid defense is particularly evident in the first halves of games.

In these, the Black and Yellows have conceded no more than two goals in 15 league games. This corresponds to a share of only 17 percent of the total of twelve goals conceded – the best record in the Bundesliga!

In light of this, the Frankfurt vs. Dortmund betting odds on no goal by the hosts before the break are also worth considering.

BVB usually strikes first

Thanks to their strong defense in the first halves, the visitors are usually the first team to score in games this season. This has been the case twelve times in 15 games – another top value in a league-wide comparison! In addition, Dortmund has been ahead at halftime six times in its eight away games.

Julian Brandt also deserves praise for his offensive play. Brandt has scored at least once in the last three competitive games on the national and international stage. Normally, the German international is more of a playmaker in Dortmund.

He has consistently recorded double-digit assists in league play over the last two seasons. Now, in the current Bundesliga season, he is primarily presenting himself as a finisher. With four goals already this season, he is currently on course for double figures, and the midfielder also scored in the last game against Eintracht.

This once again demonstrated his fondness for Eintracht: Brandt has scored in three of his last four away games against Frankfurt in all competitions!

Guirassy is out of form

Serhou Guirassy, on the other hand, is not having much fun against Eintracht. The BVB striker has played seven times against the Hessians and only scored once in April 2024, when he was still playing for Stuttgart.

Furthermore, he has been out of form for some time now – the 29-year-old has been waiting for his next goal for six league games. Guirassy has never experienced such a dry spell at BVB before, nor at his previous employer in Swabia.

Frankfurt – Dortmund Head-to-head record / H2H record

As mentioned at the beginning, Eintracht and Dortmund last faced each other in October last year in the DFB Cup, with Borussia winning away on penalties. With this victory, Dortmund once again proved to be Frankfurt’s bogey team.

Looking back at the last eight meetings in the Bundesliga, Frankfurt has only managed one win (1-1-6). In addition, goals on both sides have been the norm in recent home games between Hessen and BVB.

Only one of the last ten games of this kind did not end with both sides celebrating goals. For the upcoming match between Frankfurt and Dortmund, the odds once again favor the visitors.

Frankfurt – Dortmund Tip

The weeks of truth are beginning for Eintracht: this month, they face their final two games in the league phase of the Champions League against Qarabag and Tottenham Hotspur.

If they are to remain in the competition, they will need to win these games, as their performance so far has been far from impressive, with four points from six games. Frankfurt have also been inconsistent in the Bundesliga, especially in defense, which has conceded the second-most goals after Brenz.

At least the attack has been reliable for a long time. However, this quality has also been lost recently due to the absence of Jonathan Burkardt, who is once again unable to play for Toppmöller’s team due to his long-term injury. So, despite some new signings during the winter break, we believe the offense remains weakened. Now they face a very strong defensive opponent.

Dortmund has conceded the fewest goals after Bayern and is in stable form, with a series of eight league games without defeat. Considering this situation, the prediction for the match between Frankfurt and Dortmund is worth considering: a maximum of one goal by the hosts!
