Will the DFB offense impress again in Stuttgart?

With a 4-3 away win against Switzerland in Basel, the German national soccer team has gotten off to a positive start in the 2026 World Cup year. On Monday evening, the DFB squad aims above all to build on its offensive performance while also demonstrating its defensive qualities. Coach Julian Nagelsmann’s team was originally scheduled to face Ivory Coast in a friendly, but since the Ivorians are among Germany’s group opponents at the World Cup, plans had to be changed at short notice.

It therefore comes as no great surprise that the choice fell on their West African neighbor, Ghana. Especially given that the “Black Stars” were on the field in Vienna just a few days ago and suffered a crushing 1-5 defeat against the Austrian national team. With that in mind, my Germany vs. Ghana prediction also points to a commanding home victory for the 2014 World Cup champions.

Further reasons why the Ghanaians are in Central Europe during the last international break before the 2026 World Cup are obvious. For one thing, national team coach Otto Addo, who once played for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, among other clubs, maintains excellent contacts here. For another, the 72nd-ranked team in the world—which qualified for the finals in North America with relative ease but missed out on the Africa Cup of Nations a few months ago—faces a tough challenge in World Cup Group L alongside England and Croatia.

Following their disappointing performance in Vienna, however, the West Africans are traveling on to Stuttgart with little confidence. They have now lost three international matches in a row. Ayew and Co. scored a total of just one goal in those matches, while conceding a whopping eight. Since they now face what is, on paper, their strongest opponent yet—compared to Austria, South Korea, and Japan—my inclination ahead of the Germany vs. Ghana match is to predict that the visitors will once again fail to score and lose the game.

Anyone who doesn’t want to risk a clean sheet for Oliver Baumann due to the three goals conceded against Switzerland should perhaps shift their focus back to the DFB team’s strong offense. Wirtz and Co. have scored twelve goals in their last three international matches. Looking back at the last six games, all of which were won, the average is over three goals per match.

With home-field advantage and given their superior quality compared to the “Black Stars,” I therefore also recommend betting on the favorite to score in both halves for the Germany vs. Ghana friendly.

Germany – Ghana Head-to-Head Record

It has been roughly twelve years since these nations last faced each other. During the 2014 World Cup, the eventual world champions struggled to a 2-2 draw after the Africans had taken a 2-1 lead at one point. Four years earlier in South Africa, the Germans also had a tough time against Ghana. Mesut Özil scored the only goal of the match on the third day of group play, securing a 1-0 victory for the German national team, which is now facing the “Black Stars” in a friendly for the first time and, logically, hopes to simulate their group opponent, Ivory Coast, in some way.

Germany – Ghana Prediction

The German national soccer team enters its home match against Ghana as the clear favorite. The West Africans lost 1-5 in Austria a few days ago, displaying extremely weak defense in the process. Across the calendar year, it was already the third consecutive defeat for Addo’s team. Another defeat now looms in Stuttgart, especially since the DFB team is in good form after six consecutive international wins, scoring at least three goals in four of those six matches, and should have a clear qualitative advantage over the World Cup participant from Africa.

The fact that Julian Nagelsmann might shake up his starting lineup a bit could even be seen as a plus, since VfB players like Undav, Führich, or Nübel will be playing on their home turf. I’m therefore very optimistic and urge you to bet on Germany scoring in both halves when Germany faces Ghana.
