How will the cup winners start the new season?

In the Scottish Premiership, there is generally nothing else of note apart from the two Glasgow giants Celtic and Rangers, who battle it out for the major titles year after year. So it was all the more refreshing to see Aberdeen, a team from the second tier, win at least the cup again this summer. The Reds will now qualify for the Europa League playoffs, but first they need to get off to a good start in the league. However, the odds are not in Hearts’ favor for an away win against Aberdeen.

After all, the Dons have lost their last four league games in the Premiership, including a 1-5 home defeat to Celtic, which made their cup victory against the Celts on penalties just ten days after this resounding defeat all the more exciting. Noteworthy: The Reds have never scored more than one goal per game in their last six competitive matches (four goals in total). Bets on a low-scoring opening match are therefore popular, especially as the last three meetings between Heart of Midlothian and Aberdeen FC have always seen a maximum of two goals.

The Hearts are certainly going into the game with momentum. Not only did they win all of their last four competitive games in the Premiership last season, but the Jam Tarts have just recorded four comfortable victories in the Scottish League Cup under their new coach Derek McInnes, with a goal difference of 16:1, meaning they are now on a run of eight competitive wins in a row. Admittedly, the level of competition is now much higher than in the League Cup.

Hearts – Aberdeen Head-to-head record / H2H record

Head to head: 47 – 23 – 30

A total of 100 matches have been played between the two teams so far, with Hearts leading the head-to-head record with 47 wins. However, the Edinburgh club has now gone four games without a win against Aberdeen (two draws, two defeats). In their most recent encounter, the Jam Tarts suffered a 1-2 home defeat after extra time in the Scottish Cup semi-final. Overall, none of the last three meetings between the two clubs have seen more than two goals scored in regular time.

Hearts – Aberdeen Tip

The betting odds for Hearts against Aberdeen are in favor of the home side, who are waiting for a win against the Reds after four competitive games (two draws, two defeats). On the other hand, the Jam Tarts have won all of their last eight competitive games across all competitions, while the Jambos suffered four consecutive defeats in the Premiership at the end of the season, but then achieved the miracle of winning the national cup against Celtic Glasgow on penalties.

Now, however, the cards are being reshuffled, which is why the three-way system involves high risks and, in particular, why too much significance should not be attached to what happened in 2024/25. It is clear that both teams operate from a stable defense and occasionally apply the brakes when pushing forward, which is why it would be rather surprising if Tynecastle Park were to witness a goal fest at the start of the season.

We therefore recommend betting on under 2.5 goals, for which Hearts vs. Aberdeen odds of 1.90 are available, which we are betting on with four out of ten units at Bet-at-home.
