Will Juve get off to a perfect start to the season?
On matchday 3 of Serie A, Juventus Turin welcomes Inter Milan to its home ground, Allianz Stadium in Turin. The Old Lady has had a flawless start so far with two wins from their first two games, while Inter has only managed one win. This puts Juve in joint first place in the league with Napoli, while Inter is in sixth place thanks to goal difference. Juventus Turin has gotten off to a perfect start, winning its first two league games – and even keeping a clean sheet. On matchday 1, they won 2-0 against Parma, and on matchday 2, they won 1-0 away against Genoa. It is noteworthy that Juve scored all three of its goals in the second half.
Striker Dusan Vlahovic also made a striking impression: he scored in both games shortly after coming on as a substitute and is now the league’s most efficient striker with 20 minutes per goal. He now has another competitor in attack in the form of Lois Openda from RB Leipzig. Inter Milan started the season with two home games and, at least on the first matchday, put in an absolutely convincing performance with a 5-0 win over Turin. On the second matchday, there was an unexpected 1-2 home defeat to Udinese, which puts Inter in sixth place. Christian Chivu’s team currently has the best offense in the league, but they have always struggled in Turin in recent years.
In the last twelve direct matches in Turin, Milan has won only one – 1-0 in 2021/22. In the remaining eleven matches, Inter lost eight times and drew three times. The matches are not particularly high-scoring either: only two of the twelve games mentioned above saw more than two goals scored.
