Dépor on the way back to the top?
Deportivo La Coruna once competed against Europe’s best club teams in the UEFA Champions League. Future superstars such as Rivaldo and Roy Makaay played their way into the spotlight at the traditional Galician club. However, “Dépor” is currently a long way from such successes.
In 2020, the club was even relegated to the third division. In 2024, it managed to return to La Liga 2. After finishing 15th last season, the Blue and Whites are determined to play a more prominent role this time around following some strong summer transfers. In my opinion, however, this ambition alone is not enough to tip the scales in favor of the visitors between Leganés and Deportivo La Coruna. Especially considering that the home side also has its sights set on a place at the top of the table.
The hosts, nicknamed the “cucumber growers,” from near Madrid have just been relegated from the Spanish top flight, but are naturally interested in an immediate return. However, it is also clear that coach Paco Lopez has a major upheaval to deal with. Fifteen departures, including the loss of many key players, are offset by fifteen new signings. El Lega will therefore definitely need time before they are able to consistently deliver top performances on the pitch.
This was also evident on the first two matchdays, when the relegated team had to settle for 1-1 draws in Huesca and at home against Cadiz. Both times, Lopez’s team took the lead. The equalizer came twice in the closing stages. My Leganés vs. Deportivo La Coruna bet is also aimed at more goals in the second half. Risk-taking bettors can even consider a 0-0 score after 45 minutes. Betano is offering odds of 2.60 at the top.
Although Deportivo started the season with four points from their first two games, winning their first away game 3-1 in Granada, but then only managing a 0-0 draw at home against Burgos, I don’t think their chances of an away win on Monday evening are very good.
A good compromise could therefore be to combine the odds on Leganés and Deportivo La Coruna for a double chance 1X with under 3.5 goals. Traditionally, there are tend to be few goals in Spain’s second-best soccer league. Unsurprisingly, odds of no more than 1.60 are being offered for a maximum of two goals in the game. It looks set to be a tough and competitive match between two teams whose minimum goal is a playoff spot.
Leganés – Deportivo La Coruna Head-to-head record
The only four meetings at competitive level date back to the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons, when both teams were in the top flight. Leganés leads the head-to-head record with two wins, one defeat and one draw. In the two home games, “Los Pepineros” did not concede a goal (4-0, 0-0). However, the four encounters from almost ten years ago will have no relevant influence on the upcoming match. It is certainly more exciting to compare the market values of the squads. Here, “Dépor” even has a slight edge and has one of the most valuable squads in La Liga 2.

Leganés – Deportivo La Coruna Tip
Leganés were just one point short of securing their place in La Liga last season. Ultimately, however, it was their poor away record that brought their one-year interlude in the Spanish top flight to an end. The “cucumber growers” picked up 25 of their 40 points at home, putting in some respectable performances against the top teams. Despite numerous departures, their home strength should once again be a real asset one division lower. This will already be the case on Monday evening, when the former Champions League participant travels to the Madrid area.
Although the visitors have made a strong start with four points from two games, I still believe “El Lega” can achieve a lot at home. However, because I think a bet on the three-way market is too risky, I’m opting for a match combo and therefore recommend the betting odds on 1X & Under 1.5 (1st half) between Leganés and Deportivo La Coruna.
